Abstract

A scaffold fitting which has a metal body 1 formed from a pressed blank providing the means to mount a pair of transversely opposed drop-forged metal securing clips 2 and respectively, a pair of metal eyebolts 3. For use in clamping a pair of scaffold members in a transverse relationship. The drop-forged securing clips 2 provide a slot 10 and recess to enable easy location of eyebolt 3. The said recess 9 also safely confines the movement of the eyebolt 3 before it is fully tightened. In its opened state, the drop-forged securing clip 2 by means of a wedge 12 shaped section, provides the facility to rest a scaffold member onto the fitting.

Description

<Desc/Clms Page number 1>
SCAFFOLDING DOUBLE COUPLER This invention relates to a scaffold fitting used to secure two scaffold members in a transversely mounted fashion.
Such fittings are known comprising of a body formed as a metal pressing providing the means to mount a pair of pivoting pressed metal securing clips and means for mounting a pair of threaded bolts for use respectively in securing and releasing said securing clips. The body is pressed in such a way that two scaffold members may be clamped securely in a transverse manner. Pressed fittings are inexpensive and lightweight and are often overlooked for more robust and durable alternatives.
The way this invention differs from existing fittings, is that it comprises of a lightweight metal pressed form as the body providing means for the use of two pivoting drop-forged metal securing clips transversally mounted and means for mounting a pair of threaded eyebolts for use respectively in securing and releasing said securing clips.
Accordingly, this invention provides a safe, strong and heavy method of transversely mounting two scaffold members.
Preferably the drop-forged metal securing clips will be manufactured from mild steel to the european standard.
The invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1. is a perspective view of the invention relating to a scaffolding fitting.
Figure 2. is a perspective view of one of the drop-forged securing clips shown in place in Figure 1.
Figure 3. illustrates the invention in its opened state, secured to a vertical scaffold member.
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
Referring to the drawing shown in Figure 1. which shows the scaffolding fitting with pressed body 1. Mounted to the body via rivets 6 are the two drop-forged metal securing clips and the two pivoting eyebolts 3 are mounted to the body via rivets 7.
The pressed metal body 1 has been formed in such a way that pivotal mountings 8 are provided for both the drop-forged securing clips 2 and the eyebolts 3.
The drop-forged securing clip 2 has been designed in such a way so that the eyebolt 3 can pivot into the slot 10 in the correct position, thus enabling the washer 5 and nut 4 to be easily located into the recess 9. This recess also provides a restrictive elevation 11, once the eyebolt is located, allowing the user to tighten the nut 4 and washer 5 by hand confining the eyebolt 3 in the correct and safe location before being tightened further by tool. No damage will occur to a scaffold 13 member when the clip is tightened due to the drop-forged nature of the clip.
The drop-forged securing clip 2 has a raised reinforced section 14 at the most stressed point.
Referring to Figure 2. When in its released state, the drop-forged securing clip 2 has the added feature of being prevented from pivoting more than 900 by means of a wedge 12 shaped
section coming into contact with the pressed body 1. This wedge 12 allows the free hi I movement of the drop-forged securing clip 2 along its pivotal axis to effectively open and close the scaffolding fitting and to permit a scaffold member 13 to be located within the fitting. However, when the wedge 12 comes into contact with the pressed body 1, preventing the drop-forged securing clip 2 from travelling any further, it provides the means to rest a scaffold member 13 onto the fitting while in its open state. Please note that to perform this
procedure, the fitting must already be secured to a vertical scaffold member. Refer to Figure 3.

Claims (7)

  1. CLAIMS 1. A scaffolding fitting with pressed body mounted to the body via rivets are two drop- forged metal securing clips and the two pivoting eyebolts, the pressed metal body has been formed in such a way that pivotal mountings are provided for both the drop-forged securing clips and the eyebolts.
  2. 2. A drop-forged metal securing clip as claimed in claim 1 provides a slot and recess to enable easy location of eyebolt.
  3. 3. A drop-forged metal securing clip as claimed in the preceding claims provides a recess, safely confining the movement of the eyebolt before it is fully tightened.
  4. 4. A drop-forged metal securing clip as claimed in the preceding claims with wedge feature, providing the means to rest a scaffold member onto the fitting while in its open state.
  5. 5. A scaffold fitting as claimed in any preceding claim which has a body formed from a pressed blank providing the means to mount a pair of transversely opposed drop-forged metal securing clips and respectively, a pair of metal eyebolts Providing a safe, strong and heavy method of transversely mounting two scaffold members.
  6. 6. A scaffold fitting that will not damage scaffold members due to drop-forged nature of the securing clip.
  7. 7. A scaffold fitting as described with reference to and as shown in the accompanying drawings.
