Abstract

A circular case for storing CDs or DVDs has two compartments, a sliding door K and a base D. The door slides within a semicircular track G, and the door and track have catches M,H which cooperate to secure the door in its closed position. One of the compartments (B, fig 2) may hold two discs in use, and the other compartment (A, fig 2) may hold written material such as a booklet. The case may stand in an upright position on its base.

Description

CIRCULAR SHAPE We know the world's economy is managed by different forces in the market place. We also know that the pnce of shares fluctuates due to many factors from different bodies For mstance, the international price of oil (barrel unit) changes according to laws of demand and supply with circumstances such as war, politics or internal conflicts in different countries affecting the price.

But one thing for certain, is the fact that everyday the planet gets crowded with more and more people thus consuming more energy eg; more cars on the road, more industry, etc; which means less natural resources at the end of every single day.

Acrylic is a plastic material, a sub-product of oil and it is highly priced in the international market; and elaborated for many different end uses All CD/DVD cases are made of mainly acrylic (70%), and Nylon (30%).

My idea involves the development of a lighter CD/DVD case, design to save plastic material (acrylic/nylon) from the conventional case in order to preserve natural resources for future generations.

The shape of the case will be circular with a tangential section acting as a base, so that the CD/DVD can stay in up-right position; and a sliding door, which will provide access to the CD/DVD and the music booklet compartments.

This design is aimed to save up to 20% of the total plastic material from conventional CD/DVD cases, preserving natural resources, saving costs to manufacturers, polluting the environment less, which in turn will make the Earth a greener planet The following drawings will now describe the idea, in which: Figure 1 shows the circular case in an up-right position.

Figure 2 shows a cross-section of the lateral side As shown in figure 1, we can see the frontal view of the circular CD/DVD case. It comprises a main semicircular exterior stripe E which will be the main frame of the case.

A circular disc, side J, which will fit in the internal arc described by E, will be jointed in the lowest side of E. Now we can see a semicircular interior stripe F to which C has been jointed tangentially; we can see how C and F have become one piece and it has been jointed to side J (the difference in diameters has to be equally shared at both ends). But because the diameter ofF is smaller than that of E, a semicircular gap has been created, which will become track G We can also see a sliding door K of a semicircular shape (with a catch), which has a radius between the one of E and F but slightly thinner than the width of G, in order to be able to run along track G.

When the sliding door is fully open, it will follow the dotted lines in the track G, reaching as far as top end H.

When the sliding door is fully closed, it will slide along the perimeter of the sides I, J, which have a small conical guide M to prevent derailing. The catch in K has mdentations in both sides so that the movement of K will not be obstructed by M. Also, M has to be of a conical shape to avoid the obstruction of the CD/DVD and music/video booklet when closing. Again, we can see the base D which will keep the case in an up-right position.

Figure 2 shows the two compartments divided by C: A, which is the CD/DVD compartment and B the music/video booklet compartment. Notice that the size of A is enough to put away two CD/DVD's and the size of B enough to put away a considerable amount of literature. We can also see both sides I, J, which are the exteriors sides of the case, E as a main frame of the design and F as an interior edge of track. The sliding door K is shown inside the track. H or the end top of track can be seen with its catch being secure by the catch in K.

Claims

CLAIMS 1 A modified lighter CD/DVD case of circular shape with two compartments, where one is designated for the CD/DVD and the other for the music/video booklet; with a tangential section acting as a base enabling it to stand up, and a sliding door which will slide along a semicircle track-when opening/and out of it when closmg- which is formed by two semicircular edges; with two catches, one on the sliding door and the other one on the extenor edge in order to secure the closing of the case when put together.
