Abstract
A garment comprises a tube of lined material, with at least two bands 1a and 1e of elasticated material attached adjacent to either end of the tube. Further bands of elastic may be attached equidistant between the bands of elastic 1a and 1e. The elastic bands reinforce the garment. The garment may be worn for example as a skid, hood, muff or wrap, made from cotton, linen or man made fibres. A detachable pocket and pouch section may be attached to the lining of the garment by velcro (RTM), the opening of the pockets being fastened by zips, buttons or velcro (RTM).
Description
<Desc/Clms Page number 1>
Wrap The present invention relates to a clothing accessory, more particularly it relates to a multi-functional garment which can be worn in a variety of different ways.
It is known to have a garment such as a skirt made of material in the shape of a"tube" and similar garments have been worn around the bust. However, these garments are designed and are worn in essentially one way only.
I have now invented a garment with a wide range of uses which can be worn by women of various sizes.
According to the invention there is provided a multi-functional garment which comprises a tube of material designed to fit over the body, the material being lined with lining material and there being at least two bands of elasticated material circumferentially attached around the tube of material with two bands positioned substantially adjacent to either end of the tube, the others being positioned equidistantly between the outer two.
Preferably the circumference of tubing will comfortably exceed the widest part of the person around where it is intended to fit. The garment can be produced in various widths and depths, to fit any size.
The bands of elasticated material can also serve a reinforcing purpose and thus give structure to the garment.
The bands of elasticated material can preferably stretch to a width which is substantially the same as the circumference of the garment, so that its unstretched parts will grip the body, where desired, when worn.
Suitable elasticated material is currently sold under the trade Name"Plasticelastic' ART 100, though variations in design detail can allow other types of elasticated material.
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
The length of the garment is not critical but it is preferable of sufficient length to enable it to be worn as a skirt. The stretch qualities of the garment enable it to be worn in a number of ways, i. e. as a scarf, hood, hat, muff, sash, stole, wrap, etc. and, by inverting part of the garment, can be worn as a cowl. A young child can also sit within the garment.
Optionally, there can be reinforcing material incorporated in the garment along its length to give it added structure.
The garment can be made of any suitable material, such as cotton, linen or man made fibre and a particularly preferred material, such as fake fur, enables a garment to be produced which readily adapts to multi-functional applications.
If desired, particularly in longer garments, according to the invention, additional bands of elasticated material can be incorporated The invention will now be described with reference to the drawings, which show a garment according to the invention used in a variety of ways.
Fig. 1 shows the construction of a garment inside out according to the invention.
Fig. 2 shows a cross sectional view of the garment.
Fig. 3 shows a cross-section of a garment with lining in place.
Fig. 4 shows a cross-section of a garment without elastic in place Fig 5 shows the complete garment.
Fig 6 to 12 show some of the applications of the garment.

Referring to Fig. 1, apiece of material which, in this case, is a fake fur fabric which shows where strips of elasticated material will be placed on it, shown as (la), (lb), (Ic), and (le). The line (2) represents the main seam which is joined to form a tubular shape. The lines (3) are fold lines where the material is folded over to form hems (6) and (7).
In Fig. 2a, the hems (4) and (5) are folded and stitched. In Fig. 2b, lining fabric is shown in place, the lining fabric is stitched to the edges of the hems (6) and (7). which hold elasticated material (la) and (Ie) in place. The lining is stitched in place to form "channels" (8) through which elasticated material (lb), (Ic) and (Id) is threaded.
Fig. 3 shows a sectional view through the final garment, Fig. 4 shows a view of the final garment without the elastic in place and Fig 5 shows the garment with the elastic in place.
As a result of the inherent flexibility and adaptability of the garment, it can be worn in many ways, as shown in Fig. 6 to 11, which illustrate: Fig. 6 1-off the shoulder and around the arms
