Abstract

A device for the precise injection of doses of herbicide into the stem of weed plants such as Japanese knotweed. In use, a hook D engages with the stem of the plant. The stem is drawn onto a hardened syringe needle E by the action of a trigger F, which turns a spring mounted cog wheel H pulling the hook back toward the device. Continued movement of the hook causes contact with a sensor G which signals the electronic valve B to release a measured dose of weedkiller from the vial A. The fluid is injected into the stem of the plant by the needle. The device is also fitted with a marking blade C which marks the treated stem as it is inoculated.

Description

<Desc/Clms Page number 1>
The Jap-zap gun to eradicate Japanese Knotweed (Polvgonum Cuspidatum) The purpose of this invention is to help eradicate this pest plant by precisely injected dosages of herbicide in the autumn when the ribosome's draw down nutrient fluid from the leaves through the stems. This will also greatly reduce the collateral damage to other flora and fauna. which normally suffer when glyphospate is sprayed on an area Description of Parts and their operation A: Pressunsed cylinder ofglyphosate herbicide B: Electronic Valve releasing measured dose of herbicide when the sensor (G) is triggered by the Hook Arm (D).
C: Three cutting blades which mark the treated branched when the trigger (F) turns the cog wheel (H) pulling the Hook Arm (D) which has been hooked on a stem of the plant D The Hook Arm. which is hooked around the stem of the plant before the trigger is pulled.
Note: Due to the limitations of the drawing, the hook is shown hooking vertically on thus diagram, it will actually hook horizontally to gnp the stem E: Hardened syringe which is pushed into the stem as the Hook Arm (D) pulls the stem in towards the gun.
F: A large trigger allowing two fingers to be mserted around it for more force. The tngger turns the cog wheel (H), pulling in the Hook Arm (D), which brings the syringe and cutting blades into contact with the stem and finally makes contact with sensor (G) which signals the Electronic Valve (B) to release a measured dose of herbicide G. The sensor, which is triggered when the internal end of the Hook Arm (D) makes contact with it The sensor signals the Electronic Valve (B) releasing, measured dose of herbicide.
H: The cog wheel attached to trigger (F) which pulls the Hook Arm (D) drawing the stem in and firing the sensor (G). The cog wheel is sprung so that it will unwind after. releasing the Hook Arm (D) and moving the trigger (F) back to its'starting position
