238,363. Sunbeam Motor Car Co., Ltd., and Coatalen, L. Aug. 5, 1924. Four-stroke-cycle engines; pumps. - In an engine supplied with mixture from a carburettor 2 either by suction or by a blower 1 arranged in a by-pass passage 12, 13, the clutch 11 connecting the blower to the engine is connected by a lever 10, cable 9, lever 7 and slotted link 8 to the carburettor throttle control arm 6, so that the blower is only in operation when the throttle control is beyond the fully open position, the cable 9 being also connected to an arm 15 on a change over valve 14 which determines whether the direct or by-pass passage to the induction pipe 4 is open. When both a hand and foot control are provided for the throttle valve, the blower-operating mechanism is connected to only one of these controls.
