Abstract

A wheeled cart comprises a waist high tray 10 and supporting wheels or casters 14, the tray 10 having an opening 11 or well suitable for retaining a container. The tray 10 provides a location for fitting a paint roller pan T preferably above the opening 11, which is typically circular to accept a paint pot (P see fig 3) or a bucket (B see fig 2) of wallpaper paste. A lower tray 12 may also be provided for storage of the roller pan T or equipment such as decorating tools and wallpaper. The cart comprises upper metal rods 18 which fit into sockets in the trays 10,12 which are preferably plastic mouldings and lower metal rods 16 connected to casters 14. A ring-shaped reinforcing formation 13 is provided on the underside of the upper tray 10, forming an annular support shoulder 15 in the opening 11. The cart may be supplied as a flat pack.

Description

<Desc/Clms Page number 1>
Decorator's Work Unit The present invention relates to a work unit for use by decorators, either professional or d. i. y. decorators.
A number of work units have been proposed for use by decorators but these are variously of complicated construction or of limited use or inconvenient to use.
I have now devised a decorator's work unit which is of simple construction and convenient to use for a number of different purposes.
In accordance with the present invention, there is provided a decorator's work unit which includes supporting wheels for enabling it to be wheeled over the floor, and a tray positioned generally at waist-height, the tray being dimensioned to receive a paint roller tray as a close fit and also having an opening or well into which a paint tin or a paste bucket may be located.
The work unit may be used when painting, with a paint tin being firmly located in the opening or well in the waistlevel tray of the work unit or alternatively with the paint roller tray located in the waist-level tray. The work unit may be used for wallpapering, with a paste bucket firmly located in the opening or well in the waist-level tray. The work unit may be supplied with the paint roller tray.
The waist-level tray may be formed with an opening provided with a peripheral shoulder, on which the paint tin rests when located in the opening. Preferably the opening or well is circular and shape and preferably positioned in the centre of the waist-level tray.
Preferably the work unit includes a lower tray into which the paint roller tray may be fitted for storage, or into which decorating tools or implements may be placed.
Preferably the work unit comprises a set of legs which support the waist-level tray above the lower tray. Preferably these legs comprise metal rods which fit into sockets in the upper and lower trays.
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
Preferably the work unit comprises a set of castors on which the lower tray is supported.
Preferably the work unit is supplied disassembled, with its legs disposed in one of the trays of the unit.
Am embodiment of the present invention will now be described by way of example only and with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 is an isometric view of a decorator's work unit in accordance with the invention ; Figure 2 is a similar view of the unit, shown with its upper tray supporting a paste bucket ; Figure 3 is an isometric view of the top tray of the unit and showing a paint roller tray and a tin of paint, either which may be supported by the upper tray ; Figure 4 is an underside view of the upper tray of the unit, partly in section; and Figure 5 is a side view of the unit, partly in section.
Referring to Figure 1 of the drawings, there is shown a mobile work unit or trolley for use by a decorator, whether a professional decorator or a d. i. y. decorator. The work unit comprises upper and lower trays 10, 12 of rectangular shape: the lower tray 12 is supported on four castors 14 provided on respective lower legs 16 projecting from the bottom of the lower tray; the upper tray 10 is supported on four upper legs 18 projecting upwardly from the lower tray 12.
Each of the upper and lower trays 10, 12 is of appropriate size to receive a standard paint roller tray. Such a paint roller tray T is shown in the lower tray 12 of the unit in Figure 1, where it may be kept when out of use: the paint roller tray T would be placed in the upper tray 10 when
required for use.
The upper tray 10 is formed, at its centre, with a circular opening 11. A ring-shaped reinforcing formation 13 is provided on the underside of the upper tray 10, forming an annular support shoulder 15 in the opening 11.
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
Referring to Figure 2 of the drawings, a paste bucket B may be supported on the upper tray 10 of the work unit, the bottom of the paste bucket B being located in the central opening 11 of the upper tray and resting on the annular support shoulder 15. When the unit is used when paperhanging, tools such as scissors, brushes, measures etc. may be put in the lower tray 12 with the paint roller tray removed.
Referring to Figure 3, and as previously mentioned, the paint roller tray T may be placed in the upper tray 10 of the work unit: instead, a paint tin P may be supported on the upper tray 10, the bottom of the paint tin being located in the opening 11 and resting on the annular shoulder 15.
The work unit is arranged to be supplied in flat-pack form and then assembled for use: it may be disassembled subsequently, for storage. Thus, referring to Figures 3 and 4, the upper legs 18 of the work unit comprise metal rods which fit into sockets 19 formed in the peripheral wall of the upper tray 10 at its corners: these metal rods similarly fit, at their opposite ends, into sockets formed in the peripheral wall of the lower tray 12 at its corners. The lower legs 16 likewise comprise metal rods which fit into sockets formed in the peripheral wall of the lower tray 12. When the unit is disassembled, the upper legs 18 are placed diagonally in one of the trays and the lower legs 16 and their castors 14 are also placed in that tray. The two trays 10, 12 are moulded from plastics material.
It will be appreciated that the work unit which has been described is of simple construction yet useful for a variety of purposes.
