Abstract

There is provided a horticultural hedge trimmer comprising a motor body, a fixed blade 4, an oscillating secondary blade 3 both blades being equipped with apertures 5 wherein the twigs 6 may enter before being chopped and a section of the two blades 3,4 so configured as to provide a tooth saw 7 which section provides means whereby larger sections of branch 8 or twig that cannot be accommodated in the apertures 5 can be sawn through.

AN IMPROVED HORTICULTURAL HEDGETRIMMER This invention relates to an improved hedgetrimmer.

Horticultural hedgetrimmers are well known devices in which a fixed blade has running over it in an oscillating motion a second blade. The leading edge of both blades are so configured as to successively open apertures wherein twigs of a hedge might enter into the aperture, the blades are then driven together by the oscillating action so as to chop the said twig in one clean motion. The apertures in the blades of the hedgetrimmers when in their open position are such that they restrict the diameter of the twig that can enter the aperture such that the machine is not overloaded and a clean cut in a single stroke is effected. Twigs or branches of a hedge to be trimmed that exceed the diameter of the apertures set for a particular machine are beyond the capacity of the machine and require the use of a pruning saw or the like to cut through the material of the said branch.

According to the present invention there is provided a horticultural hedge trimmer comprising a motor body, a fixed blade, an oscillating secondary blade both blades being equipped with apertures wherein the twigs may enter before being chopped and a section of the two blades so configured as to provide a tooth saw which section provides means whereby larger sections of branch or twig that cannot be accommodated in the above mention apertures can be sawn through.

Specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Fig 1 : shows a plan view of the improved hedgetrimmer with the apertures on the blade open.

Fig 2: shows a plan view of the improved hedgetrimmer with the moving blade closing the apertures on the blade and the sawteeth in action.

Referring to the drawings Fig 1 and Fig 2 the improved hedgetrimmer comprises a handle and housing assembly 1 an oscillating motor and gear 2 which oscillating motor and gear imparts an oscillating action to blade 3 which blade 3 when in motion slides up and down over a fixed blade 4 which fixed blade 4 is rigidly attached to the housing 1. The edges of the blades 3 and 4 alternately present an aperture 5 which aperture 5 is dimensioned so as to accept a defined size of twig 6 in the open position and then to chop twig 6 in the closed position.

In the improved version a section of the blades 3 and 4 preferably the section adjacent to the motor housing 1 is configured as in a pruning saw with a preferably triangular sawtooth 7. The action of the sawtooth 7 when oscillating is to produce a sawing action which addresses and then saws through any larger sections of branch or twig 8 of a diameter that cannot be accommodated by aperture 5 on the blade.

1. CLAIMS 1. A horticultural hedgetrimmer wherein a section of the oscillating blade assembly is of a sawtooth configuration which sawtooth configuration is an adjunct to the open chopping configuration for the rest of the blade assembly.
2. 2. A horticultural hedgetrimmer as described in Claim I wherein only one of the oscillating blade assembly is equipped with the sawtooth configuration.
3. 3. A horticultural hedgetrimmer as claimed in Claims I and 2 where only the oscillating blade is equipped with projecting sawteeth.
