Abstract

A pedestal planter has a compartmentalised plant growth container 5 supported by a three part support fitted into a base 1. The base is in the form of a trough which acts as a plant growth container. The height of the planter can be adjusted by altering the number of sections which make up the pedestal. The planter has a central reservoir from which water is conducted to the various compartments by connecting wicks. The compartmentalised planter may be detached from the pedestal and used independently, even fitting it with chains and using it as a hanging basket.

Description

<Desc/Clms Page number 1>
PEDESTAL COMPARTMENTALIZED PLANTER This invention relates to pedestal compartmenalized planter.
In the current market there are many pedestal planter designs, these are in the form of a fixed stem the top of which supports a dish or metal basket, the bottom of which is attached to a base for stability and support. In the top the user plants plants. These planters all have drainage holes in the bottom or other means to enable the excess water to drain away from the unit, in most cases onto the surface upon which it is standing. The basket on top is generally fixed to the support and can only be used in conjunction with the pedestal and not independently.
Current pedestal planters have distinct limitations in that, by and large they cannot be used indoors because of the drainage requirements. Further they can only be used as pedestal planters due to the fixed nature and the design of the planter. Further the base is used primarily to support the upright unit and is not in itself a planter. Lastly the height of the pedestal planter is usually set and cannot be adjusted up or down.
According to the present invention there is provided a pedestal planter that has a removable compartmentalized planter on the top of a removable stem made up of three different sections, allowing for three different heights. These stems fit into one another and are removable from the base once fitted.
The base is in itself designed as a planter. Within the base are 8 blind holes, in the event of drainage required these can be popped open by digital pressure. Further the compartmentalized planter on the top can be removed and be used by means of chains through holes provided, as a hanging basket planter.
Further within the center pot of the compartmentalized planter is a reservoir that traps any excess water eliminating any leaks onto the surface the pedestal or planter is standing on or hanging over.
Further the compartmentalized planter has a center pot and four surrounding smaller compartments around which are four larger compartments. Each of the larger compartments have in the middle and at a specific height a blind hole to facilitate drainage if it is so desired, these holes can be popped out by digital pressure. All 8 compartments and the 1 central pot have a hole leading to the central reservoir through which passes an absorbent wick to facilitate the provision of water to and away from the compartments and central pot..
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1. shows in perspective, the pedestal planter, with one of four chain holes showing and with a stem consisting of the three separate pieces fitted into the base. It further shows the blind hole available if drainage is required.
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
Figure 2. shows a side view of the compartmentalized planter separately showing also one of four chain holes and one of four blind holes suitable for drainage if required.
Figure 3. shows a plan elevation of the compartmentalized planter showing the 8 compartments and 1 central pot and indicating the four chain holes in the outer large compartments Figure 4. shows a sectioned view of the compartmentalized planter indicating the water reservoir and the 4 holes through which the absorbent wick brings and takes away water to the compartments and center pot.. Also shown on the sides are two of the four blind holes suitable for pressing out if drainage is required.
Figure 5. shows a plan elevation of the screen that covers the water reservoir in the center pot.
Figures 6,7, and 8 shows the three stem supports indicating on the top of each a reduced section that fits into the base end of the others forming an extended stem support.
Figure 9 shows the wick that is placed into the holes joining the compartments to the center reservoir to facilitate the access to and from the reservoir and the respective compartments of water.
Figure 10 shows the support base of the pedestal planter indicating the trough to accommodate the plants. Also shown is the square hole suitable for fitting the stem support into.
Referring to the drawing Figure 1. the pedestal planter comprises of the planter base 1. in which a stem section 2. is fitted into the customized square hole in the center of the base, into stem section 2. is fitted stem section 3. and into this section stem section 4. Onto the top end of stem section 4. and fitting into a customized square hole is the planter basket 5. The pedestal planter can be reduced in height by removing any of the sections 2,3 or 4. The compartmentalized planter can be removed from the stem and used as a table mounted planter or as a hanging basket by suspending by means of chains threaded through the holes provided in the large four compartments. The base I can also be used independently as a planter in its own right.
