Abstract

A garment blank is knitted in a seamless manner on a circular knitting machine by first knitting an inner tubular layer 2 from the bottom 21 to the top and then continuing to knit an outer layer from top 31 to bottom 33, the two layers being interconnected by knitting at a line 4. To form the garment such as a swimming costume, the lower portion of the inner layer may be drawn upwardly to extend from the connection line 4 to beyond the upper end 23 before the garment is cut to the required shape from the blank. Rib or jacquard knitting may be used in either layer selected locations. The garment may alternatively be underwear, tights or a slip.

TITLE: SEAMLESS MULTI-LAYER FABRIC KNITTING METHOD BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION (a) Field of the Invention The present invention is related to a seamless multi-layer fabric knitting method, and more particularly to one for a seamless knitting tube (or sag type) multi-layer fabric to be prepared for the making of underwear, slip, swimming suit, or tights.
(b) Description of the Prior Art: Usually a ready garment of underwear, swimming suit or tights is made of cuttings stitched together, therefore, many stitching lines are visible to spoil the appearance in general.
If the cuttings are cut from fabrics made of stretch yarns containing spandex, polyester or cotton, the stretching property of the fabric will be discouraged. To be innovative and seek for a breakthrough, a seamless single-layer fabric (A) as illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2 of the accompanying drawings has been developed. Said seamless single-layer fabric (A) when knitted usually indicates a tube type, i. e. one end being sealed with the other end opening up, and most of the fabric (A) are usually made of stretch yarns. Said fabric (A) has significantly eliminated those defects found with the ready garments of the prior art. Furthermore, it permits to be processed by a rib body knitting machine to create rib construction (B) or 3D or non-3D jacquard construction.
Wherei'n rib construction improves the appearance and the tension of the fabric by adjusting its width to compromise the curve of a human body. For example, the waist line is made. with higher tension to reduce its width while the hip line (C) can be taken

line in Fig. 3. The knitting moves forward from the connection point 32 of the outer layer 3 down to the lower end point 33 to finish the knitting of a seamless multi-layer fabric 1.
Wherein, the knitting from the upper point of the inner layer through the inverted pleat section to the upper point of the outer layer relates to an uninterrupted process. There is no need to have any further connection point for the yarns. The size of the fabric 1 may be readjusted by compromising the curve of the human body. For instance, the tension of the waist line may emphasized by having a reduced width of the fabric 1, or the hip line may be slightly protruded for the knitted wear to be comfortably tight to wear. The connection line 4 produced after the cross knitting of both connection points 22,32 respectively from the inner layer 2 and the outer layer 3 may be set to a position as required in the future when the fabric 1 is made into a cloth. Furthermore, rib, 3D or non-3D jacquard construction may be knitted at a selected location on the inner layer 2 or the outer layer 3 as required by the fabric 1. Wherein, said rib construction may be made in a straight line patter as illustrated in Fig. 1 with the length and width of the stripe of the rib construction can be changed as required.
If and when required, the lower end point 21 of the inner layer 2 or the lower end point 33 of the outer layer 3 at the head of the fabric 1 can be made as a contact end to extend the fabric to the other end.
As illustrated in Figs. 6, 7 and 8 for a preferred emDodiment of the present invention in industrial application, once the fabric 1 has been produced by following those four steps as disclosed above to be made into a slip or a swimming suit, the lower end point 21 on the inner layer 2 of the fabric 115 upwardly

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS Referring to Figs. 3,4, and 5, the present invention relates to a seamless knitting method for multi-layer fabric 1. Said fabric 1 contains an inner layer and an outer layer woven by a (circular) knitting machine from spandex, polyester or cotton stretch yarns in four steps including: Step 1: Starting from the lower end point 21 on the inner layer 2, yarns are knitted upward for an additional area in a pre-determined length and width and a connection point 22 is formed within the pre-determined length; Step 2: Starting from the connection point 22, yarns are knitted upward further for a pre-determined length to reach an upper end point 23 to complete weaving for a total length required by the fabric 1 to complete the production of the inner layer 2; Step 3: Yarns are continuously knitted inside-out for an inverted pleat section 24, from the upper end 23 of the inner layer 2, the inverted pleat 24 is then continuously connected to an upper end point 31 of the outer layer 3; and Step 4: The knitting continuous from the upper end point 31 of the outer layer 3 all way down to the connection point 22 of the inner layer 2 to form a connection point 32 of the outer layer 3 while connections points 22, 32 respectively from the inner layer 2 and the outer layer 3 of the fabric 1 are crossed to form a connection line 4 as represented by a dotted

a fabric prepared using the method of the present invention does give a certain value and contribution to the trade by providing the following benefits: 1. An integrated, multi-layer fabric to reduce the number of work stations in the process and the production cost.
2. The garment made of the fabric is seamless.
3. The garment made of the fabric gives good touch, custom-made effects, compromising the curve of human body without causing compression and awkwardness; being stretchable weft wise and warp wise for easy putting on or off.
As disclosed, a seamless multi-layer fabric knitting method is innovative, advanced and practical to be utilized by the fabric knitting trade to comply with requirements of a utility patent. However, it should be noted that the preferred embodiment of the present invention is given for illustration purpose, certainly not used to limit the scope of the claims to be made hereunder. That is, any equivalent modification and change made by following the teaching of the present invention shall be included in the scope of the claims to be made by the present invention.

folded to pass beyond the upper end point 23 to form a fall, then the entire fabric 1 is fully placed flat for the cutting into a panel provided with a shoulder strap 5 and a collar 6 while the lower half of the fabric 1 is cut into a shape of underwear 7. The entire cutting as illustrated by the dotted line is cocked 9. An opening 8 is each reserved at where the upper shoulder strap 5 closes to the lower armpit or the collar 6 to receive insertion of a brassier cup 10 and sewed in to be fixed in a space 11 created between the inner layer 2 and the outer layer 3 or the fall of the inner layer 2 and the inner layer 2 so that the connection is invisible from the appearance of the slip or the swimming suit. Buttons may be provided at the. bottom or at the shoulder strap as required (not to be disclosed herein as such buckling means relates to an art generally known to the trade).
Furthermore, since the fabric 1 is in a proper thickness,, the width of the fabric 1 may be adjusted depending on the individual curve of human body. For example, the waist line may be given with higher tension for a reduced width while the hip line may be knitted with a certain convex to make the underwear or the slip to wear comfortably. Putting on the underwear or the slip made of fabric processed by following the method disclosed in the present invention is like wearing a brassier without knowing that it is actually an underwear. Therefore, one may wear it as if it were an outfit. Furthermore, the method of the present invention warrants a significant reduction in production cost while the production is improved both in quality and quantity. That means more profits for the garment manufacturing trade, and the consumers can buy them quality and attractive underwear at an affordable price. As a result,
