Abstract
A bag 10 with a shoulder strap 21 and waist belt 22 comprises a bag having a top 12 which may be opened, a shoulder strap attached to the top of the bag and an additional waist belt. The bag may further comprise at least one insulated compartment, which may provided with a removable tray 28 suspended therein. The insulation 24 may be a foam-backed foil. The bag may be partitioned into separate pockets 14/16/18. The shoulder strap and waist belt may have clips on their ends which engage rings on the body of the bag and these attachment points may be above the centre of gravity of the bag. The bag is intended for use by anglers with fishing bait being kept in the insulated compartment. The bag allows an angler to retrieve bait from the bag and cast it into the water from a standing position without him needing to stoop to reach into a bag resting on the ground.

BAG
The present invention relates to a bag that is especially design for use by anglers.
Anglers use bags that have cloth sides and various pockets for the purpose of carrying the items that they need, including bait. Such bags have been fitted with shoulder straps to enable them to be carried easily but in use they are designed to be placed on the ground.
Anglers often cast bait into the water from a standing position. The present invention is predicated on the realisation that it is inconvenient for the angler to have to stoop on each occasion in order to pick up bait from a bag that is resting on the floor.
According to the present invention, there is provided a bag for use by anglers having a top that may be opened to allow access to the contents of the bag from above, a shoulder strap attached to the top of the bag to permit the bag to be suspended from the shoulder of a user and an additional waist strap attached to the bag to permit the bag to be worn around the waist of a user.
The invention avoids the need for the angler to have to stoop by providing an additional strap that allows the bait bag to be worn by the use in the same manner as a belt bag.
This leaves the angler's hands free and enables the angler to withdraw bait, or an item of tackle, without having to reach down into a bag resting on the ground.
As the bag is primarily intended for bait, it is preferable that it should have an insulating lining to keep the bait fresh. Such a lining may conveniently comprise a metallised material backed with a foamed plastics material.
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
Advantageously, the bag may be provided with a removable tray. The tray may be formed of a flexible material and partitioned into separate pockets. If designed means of attachment (such as Velcro@) may be provided for holding the tray within the interior of the bag.
The waist strap and the shoulder strap need not be permanently attached to the bag and may instead have on their ends clips that engage rings attached to the bag.
The points of attachment of the waist strap should preferably be positioned on the sides of the bag above the centre of gravity of the bag, so that the bag naturally rests upright while it is worn by the angler. This not only allows easy access to its interior but also avoids the risk of the bag tilting and spilling its contents on the ground while it is worn.
The bag may of course have several pockets, as is conventional and the means for keeping the various compartments and pockets closed may be conventional, relying for example on zip fasteners or buckles.
The invention will now be described further, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view from above of a bag of the invention shown with its main compartment closed, and
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the bag of Figure 1 shown with its main compartment open and its contents withdrawn.
The cloth bag 10 shown in the drawings has a main compartment that is closed by means of a top cover 12 having a zip fastener around its periphery. The bag also has front pockets 14 and 16 and a rear pocket 18.

To allow the bag 10 to be carried by hand the bag is fitted with two carrying handles 16 that are sewn to the sides of the bag.
The bag is additionally provided with two carrying straps 20 and 22. The strap 20 extended from the top of the bag and is of such a length as to be used as a shoulder strap. To this end, the strap 20 is additionally provided with a shoulder cushioning pad 21.
The strap 22 is intended to be use as a waist strap and in use extends from the rear of the bag around the waist of the user. The point of attachment of the waist strap 22 is above the centre of gravity of the bag so that it can be worn in the same manner as a belt bag. The straps 20 and 22 are shown as having clips that engage rings on the bag, allowing the straps to be detached from the bag, but they may alternatively be permanently sewn to the bag, if desired.
The main compartment of the bag is intended to hold fishing bait. As bait will last longer if kept cool, the main compartment is provided with a foam backed metallised insulating lining 24. A removable sack 26 is fitted within the compartment lining by means of poppers and it can be used to hold a cloth tray 28 that is itself partitioned into four separate pockets. The tray can be suspended in the mouth of the sack 26 by the use of Velcro@ strips 30 and 32.
The advantage of the bag of the invention resides in the fact that it can be worn around the waist and while so worn the cover 21 can be opened to allow access to the main insulated compartment that is used to contain bait. In this way, an angler can retrieve bait from the bag and cast it into the water from a standing position without having to stoop to reach into a bag resting on the ground.
