Abstract
238,063. Dehn, F. B., (Budd Manufacturing Co., E. G.). July 17, 1924. Vulcanizing by electricity. - An electricallyheated vulcanizing-apparatus for wheel tyres and similar articles, comprises a two-part annular mould, an internal core, and external core sections adapted to form the primary transformer circuit, power-operated means being provided for moving the mould and core sections into and out of operative position. In the tyre-vulcanizing apparatus shown, the complementary mould sections 22, 53 with the primary coils 18, 51, and laminated core sections 14, 45 are mounted on fixed and movable heads 12, 40 respectively, the latter being carried by a power-operated ram 41. The parts are moved into the closed operative position shown in Fig. 7 by pressure-fluid admitted behind the ram 14. The internal core 31 is formed with a wedge-section rim 29 which is clamped between the arms 28 of a spider 27 threaded on a movable spindle 24, and arms 33 connected to a collar 35 by toggle links 34. Radial adjustment of the arms 33 to clamp, or free, the core 31 is effected by rotation of the collar 35. In the final (mould-closing) movement of the head 40, the core is moved axially against the resistance of a spring 27<1> fitted between the head 12 and the spider 27. In the return movement of the head 40, the spring reacts to move the core 311 clear of the mould section 22. After the vulcanization is completed, cooling liquid is circulated through pasages 67 in the mould sections.
