Abstract

The device uses Compressed Gas 5 to inflate a Balloon 6 in order to adjust the buoyancy. The device allows anglers to fish at a pre-set depth in order to target selected species of fish and to prevent costly losses of fishing tackle due to snagging on rocks or Sea floor debris. In use the float is cast and descends until a predetermined depth is reached, gas is then released through valve mechanism 8 into balloon 6 which expands to displace water in chamber 7.

Description

<Desc/Clms Page number 1>
DESCRIPTION VARIABLE BUOYANCE DEPTH FLOAT This invention relates to a variable depth-fishing float (NAUTILUS).
When Sea or Fresh water fishing from the shore or boat, greater numbers of fish can be caught if the bait is presented effectively and has an attraction to the targeted fish species.
The Nautilus achieves this by allowing the angler to alter the fishing depth depending on the underwater terrain and the fish species targeted.
The dial on the side of the Nautilus is adjusted to a required fishing depth, when cast into the water the device descends through the water column until the water pressure is equal to the corresponding set depth. The internal compressed gas cylinder then releases air into an inflatable balloon, which alters the buoyancy preventing the Nautilus from descending further. In an attempt to achieve the set depth Nautilus would start to ascend, the water pressure reduces and a small amount of air is released from the inflatable balloon and Nautilus starts to descend. This up and down action acts as an attraction to patrolling fish.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which :- Figure 1 shows in plan the size of the device and how the fishing depth is set.
Figure 2 shows in plan the internal components.
Referring to the drawing Figure 1. Nautilus comprises of Body parts 1 & 9 a Depth Dial 2, a Balloon Chamber 7 and Line Securing Eyes 3.
Figure 2 shows internal components. Prior to commencement of fishing a Compressed Gas Cylinder 5 is inserted into the body of Nautilus by removing the Buoyancy Compensator 9. The Buoyancy Compensator 9 is then screwed back in position; an Air Pipe 10 then punctures the gas cylinder releasing gas into the Valve Mechanism 8. The Depth Gauge 2 is then set to the desired depth and the fishing line and baited cast is attached to Line Securing Eye 3. Nautilus is then cast out; this distance is determined by the Weight 4. Nautilus then descends until the predetermined depth is reached, gas is then released through Valve Mechanism 8 into Balloon 6 which expands in Balloon Chamber 7 displacing water in the chamber.

Claims (5)

  1. CLAIMS 1. A variable depth float which allows the whole of the water column to be fished by means of a controlling the fishing devices buoyancy.
  2. 2. The device as claimed in Claim I that allows the fishing bait to be presented more effectively at the correct depth for the species of fish.
  3. 3. The device as claimed in Claim 1 and 2 allows the bait to be moved up and down attracting patrolling fish.
  4. 4. The device as claimed in Claim 1 and allows the baited hooks to be kept clear of any snagging obstacles on the Sea floor. Therefore preventing losses of fishing tackle.
  5. 5. The device as claimed in Claim 1 that allows the bait to be carried in or out with the tide allowing a greater area to be covered when fishing.
