Abstract

A caravan awning erection system comprises a series of inflatable support members over which a cover may be placed, or alternatively to which a cover is integrally attached. The inflatable support members may be manufactured from PVC, and they may be attached to a roof channel on a side of the caravan. The base of the awning may be secured to the ground by means of rubber hoops, and canvas ties may be provided on the awning for attachment to conventional support poles if required. The inflatable support members may have several separate air chambers each with their own inflation/deflation valve, and the awning covering may be provided with doors, windows and curtain runners. The inflatable support system is also described as being capable of supporting a prior art caravan awning or a tent.

Description

<Desc/Clms Page number 1>
DESCRIPTION I would like to register my idea for the"Inflatable caravan awning support system", and also apply for patent of the systems.
The basis of the idea consists of a reinforced inflatable support system, reinforced heavy duty PVC tubing running on the inside of the awning as described in drawing fig 1.
The awning would be fitted to the caravan in the conventional way, via the side channel on the top of the van, then the awning would be laid out on the floor. The inflatable valve can be fitted to an air compressor, sold separately, and inflated until the correct and desired pressure is attained. Any size of awning can be made with this system.
The system would only take a matter of minutes to inflate thus saving an immense amount of time and effort and saving you having to carry the extra weight and bulk of the metal poles.
The system could be operated by one person who just has to inflate the device via the valve and then secure the awning to the floor with rubber eyelets located around the base, eyelets around the front and sides (at the top) would also be installed to add extra stability to the system.
The benefits of the system are that instead of two or maybe three people having to erect and standard metal pole awning system, this can be done by one person leaving other people to do other tasks, or if the person is caravanning on their own the system enables them to put the awning up with the greatest of ease.
The system would have reinforced eyelets fitted alongside the inflatable tube system to give extra strength to the awning after the system has been inflated, if this was required, by using the standard metal poles. But the system should be strong enough for this not to be required but they are there if they are so required.
A separate system using the same inflatables would be available so that people with existing awnings could use the system saving them the expense of having to purchase a whole new system and new awning from the manufacturer.
The system can be made to suit any size awning, and shape, that is required.
The system can also be used to erect tents of all shapes and sizes, new ones where the system would already be fitted, or older tents where the system could be fitted afterwards thus saving time, in inclement weather, weight and effort.

Claims (12)

  1. CLAIMS 1. The inflatable caravan awning system would be made from reinforced heavy duty PVC approx 2"dia for standard size awnings - 3" for larger ones.
  2. 2. The system as claimed in claim one would run around the front, top, sides and roof as illustrated in fig 1.
  3. 3. The system as claimed in claim 2 would be secured to the ground via rubber hoops connected all the way around the bottom of the awning.
  4. 4. The system as claimed in claim 3 would be inflated via a valve suitable for securing a manual foot pump, 12v or electric compressor to be inflated.
  5. 5. The system claimed in any preceding claim would have a 1"dia threaded plastic valve for releasing the air out once the system is ready to be deflated.
  6. 6. Canvas ties would run top, middle and bottom around the awning so that (if required) you can still use the metal poles once the system had been inflated.
  7. 7. Plastic runners would run above each window for fitment of curtains.
  8. 8. If required the system could be manufactured in separate sections, all fitted together, with separate air chambers, with separate inflating and deflating valves.
  9. 9. The system could be made to fit any size and shape of awning what so ever.
  10. 10. The system would also be available just as an inflatable pole system, which could be fitted to an awning not already fitted with the system, these poles would be attached to the awning via canvas ties stitched into the seams of the awning.
  11. 11. The system would save time and effort in this ever expanding leisure pursuit.
  12. 12. The system can also be manufactured to fit tents of any shape and size if required.
