Abstract
237,867. Naamlooze Vennootschap Matechu Maatschappij tot Exploitate van Chemische Uitvindingen, (Assignees of Kruger, M., and Unkel, S. R.). Aug. 2, 1924, [Convention date]. Rotary and stationary vessel washing apparatus; wet-separating.-Impure salt, such as sea salt, is purified by counter-current washing in stages with water or brine while being continually turned over in a substantially horizontal drum or trough, the salt being maintained for a time in contact with the washing-liquor in each step. The salt. introduced through a feed hopper 3, Fig. 2, into an inclined trough 1, is moved by a screw conveyer 2 through brine in the first compartment. After passing a partition 28, the salt is treated with brine which is circulated through a pipe 10 and a filter 7 by a pump 9. After passing a second partition the salt is washed with sufficient water, admitted by a pipe 4, to remove magnesium chloride. According to a modification, the counter-current washing is carried out in a rotary tapering drum, Fig. 3, having parallel guide ribs 20. A guide member 21 is connected obliquely to the front end of each rib to form channels for the passage of salt and washing-liquid. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also a second modification in which the salt, after counter-current washing with brine in a trough, is thrown on an endless conveyer belt 22, Fig. 5 (Cancelled), where the salt is first sprayed with brine, circulated through a pipe 10, and then with water. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
