A removable mesh window guard consisting of frame 1, mesh 2 and clips 3. The guard is easily slid into position on top of window frame 4, engaging retaining clips 3, blocking the exit of pets via the window.

Description

<Desc/Clms Page number 1>
Window Pet Guard The invention relates to a framed mesh window guard for an open window that can be put in position indoors by a householder, whenever required, quickly Similar protective guards exist for security reasons but their purpose is for protection against burglary and they are expensive, heavy and have to be attached using a drill and large screws. The invention here is appropriate for the purpose of preventing pets from falling, flying or jumping out of high windows.
The aim of the invention is to allow fresh, cool air into an upper storey home through a wide open window, whilst at the same time providing a mesh guard that will prevent pets, such as cats, from falling or jumping out and becoming hurt by the fall or by busy traffic outside Accordingly, this invention provides a slender but strong frame to which is attached metal or plastic mesh that has holes sized to suit the risk yet large enough to allow plenty of fresh air and light into a room.
The frame is provided with clips, possibly self-adhesive clips, that would hold the frame against the inside of the window surround after the device has been slid into place, under upper clips first.
The surrounding frame of the invention may be made of wood, with the attached mesh being metal, but preferably frame and mesh could be made of plastic and manufactured as one whole piece or as a self-assembly kit.
The invention could be coloured so as to lessen the visual impact from ground floor level outside, whilst being quite attractive seen from indoors. The grill/mesh would preferably have diagonal/diamond-shaped holes rather than the more noticeable rectangular holes. The supporting clips may be self-adhesive and are permanently left in place on the surrounding window-frame, ready for use.
Preferably they would be made of strong plastic.
The invention may be supplied as a kit providing lengths of material for the supporting structure to be cut to size, with lengths of mesh to be cut to size also, and with pre-moulded comer units to hold materials firmly.
A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1 : shows a face-on view of the window guard.
