Abstract

A flood barrier 2 is mounted to masonry surrounding an aperture to be protected from flood water, such as a doorway, window or air brick. The barrier is preferably bolted to the masonry by bolts passing through holes 1, a seal 4 being compressed between the barrier and the masonry. The periphery of the barrier may have a flange formation in which the bolt holes are located and may include reinforcing ribs.

FLOODSHIELD, FLOOD DEFENCE SYSTEM This invention relates to a floodshield, flood defence system.
This invention is to provide a flood defence system, comprising of a watertight framework, with each sealing surface providing a waterproof, compressable seal.
Fixing holes through the flat sealing area of the framework are provided to secure the unit into position.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which :- Figure 1 shows the two units fixed into position across doorway and air brick.
Figure 2 illustrates the same as figure 1 but in plan.
Figure 3 shows the doorway floodshield from the sealing face side.
Figure 4 shows the doorway floodshield in plan.
Figure 5 shows the air brick floodshield from the sealing face side.
Figure 6 shows the air brick floodshield from the outer face.
Figure 7 shows the air brick floodshield in plan.

Referring to the drawing the floodshields comprises a framework 2 and a compressable seal 4 secured to the framework by an adhesive.
In order to secure the floodshield to the building as shown in figure 1 fixing bolts are passed through the fixing holes 1 and secured into threaded sleeves (not shown) set into the masonary. The bolts tightened to compress the seal 4 to the masonary.
In order to remove the floodshield the steps above are carried out in reverse.

Claims (3)

  1. CLAIMS 1 A floodshield comprising of a rigid framework, a compressable seal for means of sealing to a masonary surface.
  2. 2 A floodshield as claimed in claim 1 wherein fixing holes are provided to pass fixing bolts through to secure the unit into position.
  3. 3 A floodshield as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2, wherein strengthening braces are provided to increase the rigidity of the sealing surface.
