Abstract
A firearm security cable can be easily inserted into a firearm in the same way as ammunition is inserted. The action of the firearm is then closed and the padlock is fixed where the firearm security cable is exposed at the muzzle end of the firearm. To remove the firearm security cable, unlock and remove the padlock and then the firearm action is opened and the firearm security cable is removed from the breach end of the barrel. The firearm security cable can be made for all types of firearms, shotguns and pistols by manufacturing it with the replica cartridge cases of the same calibre as the firearm to be protected and with the plastic-sheathed cable slightly longer than the barrel so that a padlock can be used.
Description
<Desc/Clms Page number 1>
FIREARM SECURITY CABLE This invention relates to firearm security:
The firearm security cable is a device wherein a plastic sheathed multistrand steel cable is inserted into the barrel of a firearm from the breach end.
This protrudes from the muzzle of the firearm and a lock is then applied.
The plastic sheathed multi-strand cable is secured into a replica or dummy cartridge case of a calibre that matches the firearm to be secured, the replica cartridge and cable is inserted into the breach of the firearm. The cable passes through the barrel but the replica cartridge case cannot go past the firearm chamber.
The firearm security cable is manufactured long enough to protrude from the muzzle of the firearm. The cable has a nipple or eyelet crimped onto the end so that a padlock can be used to stop the cable from being withdrawn from the firearm. The firearm security cable is inserted and retracted in the same way as a round of ammunition is loaded and unloaded in the firearm.
The firearm security cable can be manufactured to fit rifles, pistols or shotguns.
The invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings and in which: Figure 1
Illustrates a replica or dummy cartridge case a. which is manufactured from a non-ferrous material, either brass, aluminium or plastic, with a plastic sheathed multi-strand steel cable b. and a crimped-on nipple c. or eyelet d.
Figure 2
Illustrates a sectioned view of a rifle barrel e. with the firearm security cable comprising a. , b. and c. inserted and a padlock f. in place.
Figure 3
Illustrates a sectioned view of a shotgun barrel g. with the firearm security cable comprising a. , b. and d. inserted and a padlock f. in place.
Figure 4
Illustrates a sectioned view of the replica cartridge case a. and the plastic sheathed multi-strand steel cable b. passing through the replica cartridge case a. The cable b. is retained in the cartridge case a. with a crimped-on nipple h. which cannot pass through the hole in the cartridge case a. A rubber plug i. is inserted into the hole in the replica cartridge case a. to enable the firearm to have the tension on its firing pin spring released without damage to the firing pin or the firearm security cable. The multi-strand steel cable b. has a plastic sheath so that the bore of the firearm is not damaged when the firearm security cable is inserted and withdrawn.
Figure 5
Illustrates a length k. of plastic sheathed multi-strand steel cable j. with eyelets d. crimped onto both ends. The length k. can be manufactured in different lengths. The item in figure 5 is used to secure the firearm to an

object such as a luggage ring or seatbelt mooring in a car or to a secure item in a hotel room. The cable j. is passed around the secure item and then looped over the nipple c. or eyelet d. on the firearm security cable before the padlock is fitted, thus securing the firearm against unauthorised removal.
Claims (7)
1. A firearm security cable comprising of a replica cartridge case of either a shotgun, rifle or pistol of the same calibre as the firearm to be secured, a length of plastic sheathed multi-cored steel cable of smaller diameter than the firearm barrel, to be longer than the firearm barrel with a crimped nipple or eyelet on the end of larger diameter than the firearm barrel that is to be secured.
2. A firearm security cable as claimed in claim 1., with a close shackle padlock locked onto the firearm security cable between the muzzle of the firearm and the nipple or eyelet crimped to the end of the firearm security cable.
3. A firearm security cable as claimed in claim I or 2 in which the replica cartridge case has a hole in its rear end in which is located a hard rubber plug so that the cocked mechanism of a firearm can be released without damaging the firing pin of the firearm or the firearm security cable.
4 A firearm security cable as claimed in claim 1, 2 or 3 in combination with a further length of plastic-sheathed multi-cored cable having a non-ferrous eyelet crimped on to each end, the further cable allowing the security cable in association with the firearm to be secured to another object such as the inside of a gun cabinet, a car boot or a large object in a room.
3. A firearm security cable as claimed in claims 1. and 2., with the firearm security cable inserted into the firearm barrel from the breach end and the plastic sheathed cable passed through the barrel.
4. A firearm security cable as claimed in claims 1., 2. and 3., where the firearm is seen to be secure to observers because the crimped eyelet or nipple is protruding from the muzzle and a padlock is visible.
5. A firearm security cable as claimed in claims in 1., 2., 3. and
4., where the firearm cannot be loaded when the firearm security cable is inserted from the breach and padlocked at the muzzle.
6. A firearm security cable as claimed in claims 1., 2., 3., 4. and
5., where the hole in the end of the replica cartridge case has a hard rubber plug inserted so that the cocked mechanism of the firearm can be released without damaging the firing pin of the firearm or the firearm security cable.
7. A firearm security cable as claimed in claims 1., 2., 3., 4., 5. and
6., with a plastic-sheathed cable with non-ferrous eyelet crimped to both ends so that the firearm can be secured to an object such as the inside of a gun cabinet, car boot or a large object in a room.
8. A firearm security cable as claimed in claims 1., 2., 3., 4., 5., 6. and
7., where firearm security can be physically and visually achieved and act as a deterrent from casual thieves and children.

Claims A firearm security device comprising a length of plastic-sheathed multi- cored steel cable having a replica cartridge case for reception in the chamber portion of a firearm barrel secured to one end of the cable and an eyelet crimped onto the other end of the cable where the crimped-on eyelet may be passed through the barrel of the firearm from the breach end to protrude from the muzzle end with the replica cartridge case seated in the chamber portion, and a padlock for locking onto the eyelet to prevent withdrawal of the cable from the barrel.
2 A firearm security device comprising a length of plastic-sheathed multi- cored steel cable having a replica cartridge case for reception in the chamber portion of a firearm barrel secured to one end of the cable and a nipple crimped onto the other end of the cable where the crimped-on nipple may be passed through the barrel of the firearm from the breach end to protrude from the muzzle end with the replica cartridge case seated in the chamber portion, and a padlock having a shackle of such a size that when the padlock is locked with its shackle surrounding a portion of the cable between the muzzle end of the barrel and the nipple, the nipple cannot pass through the shackle and withdrawal of the cable from the barrel is prevented.
