Abstract
A splint comprising two or more semi-rigid vertical splints b which may be padded c, d or fenestrated. They are held together with two or more horizontal straps e which may be fastened with hook and loop tape a. The splint may be used in orthopaedics.
Description
<Desc/Clms Page number 1>
THE REINFORCED SPLINTS SYSTEM (RSS) The invention relate to the splints used in orthopedic surgery to stabilize the fractures in the human or animal bones for temporary or long term use, The current splints in use are time consuming to apply or to stabilize the fracture area, need a lot of skill or experience, expensive & carry a complication if happens will increase the recovery period.
The RSS System have the following advantages.
- Light Weight.
- For temporary & long term use.
- Percentage of complication is much lower than the POP, Plastic split or internal fixation.
- Easy handling of the splints - Reduction of the cost of the treatment - Wider application in orthopedics both human & animal treatment.
- The treated area of the body can be seen even with the splits on.
- Can be applied by medical and non medical person.
- The splints can be bend (version 1) to fit body contour or solid or solid (version 2) for maximum stability.
- Can be adjusted in future when the swelling of the area treated subsides.
- Reusable which reduce the cost of the device.
The object of invention is to provide a device which can be carried any where by medical or non-medical person in emergency or inpatient treatment, for temporary or long term use, can be manufactured locally without the need of highly specialized industry especially in the third world, cheap to manufactures.
The essential features is easy application by any person, ideal for emergency, the small size, flexibility, light weight & because it can be folded make it easy to carry any where.
The ability of the splints to bend in two direction which make the RSS system fits on most fractured area & can be produce in different sizes, shapes or colors.

Description of the invention Fig. 1 Showing section in the split of the RSS system which consist of inner surface of soft non allergic materials which is going to be with direct contact with the skin surface of the area suffered of a fracture, on top of the inner surface layer if the second layer of song materials to prevent any pressure on the skin, a third layer of metal sheet of strong quality but at the same time have some bending quality under strong pressure, this bending quality will enable the splint to be molded over the arms or body curvature, the outer surface layer of velcro materials on the outside surface where is going to be in contact with its counterpart to be fixed in order to form the strap shape with the other splints to holds the part of the body to be treated.
Fig2 Showing the full splints system which consist of a number of bars each consist of four layers, the splints could be of different numbers, shape or thickness, and length depending on the size, shape, and length of the body area to be treated, it also shows the straps which could be between 2-4 in numbers which will hold the splints, the inner surface of the straps covered of counter part of velcro materials in order to holds the splints firmly over the treated area.
Fig3 Showing section in the strap which consist of 1-2 spongy layers, outer soft layer and the inner layer of velcro counter part which stick to the velcro surface on the outer surface of the splint.
Fig4 Showing the fenestrated split, the advantage is reduction of weight and the holes can fit over bulging body parts for maximum stability and fit well over the affected area.
Fig. 5 Different shape of fenestrated RSS System which consist of two halves joined by soft stretchable materials for extension, the same thing applied for the lower half. This shape is useful for the fractures in the long bones in the body of human or animals. RSS/ALRAZAK
Claims (4)
- Claims 1. The RSS System consist of a numbers of splints (of different shapes, the most preferable for long bones support is the longitudinal shapes) and a numbers of straps mainly 2-4 in numbers to holds the splints together.
- 2. Inside each splint unit is a supportive solid sheet of strong quality preferably of metal but it can be of other material which is solid at the same time have some bending quality under strong pressure to fit the body contour.
- 3. The inside and out side surface of splints and straps must be covered by soft materials in order not to damage the skin surface.
- 4. Spongy or compressible materials must be included inside the layers of the splints in order to prevent pressure affect and it give way in case of swelling underneath the skin due to bleeding from the fracture site.RSS/ALRAZAK
