Abstract
A drinking apparatus 10 comprising a mug 12 and saucer 14. The saucer 14 has a downwardly extending recess 22 of a size to receive a tea bag or similar item. A rim 24 is provided around the recess 22 which can support the mug 12.
Description
Drinking Apparatus This invention concerns improvements in or relating to
drinking apparatus, and particularly but not exclusively apparatus suitable for use with drinks such as tea which are made from a tea bag or similar.
Drinks such as tea are often served individually with a tea bag or the like in a cup or mug. The tea bag requires removal from the cup/mug when the drink has attained a required strength, and prior to drinking. There is often not however a convenient location or receptacle for the tea bag which can thus result in spillages and/or untidiness.
According to the present invention there is provided drinking apparatus, the apparatus comprising a drinking vessel and a support member upon which the vessel can stand, the support member comprising a recess which can receive an item such as a tea bag.
The apparatus may be arranged such that the drinking vessel, at least partially and preferably substantially wholly, closes the recess when standing on the support member.
The support member may comprise a rim around the recess, upon which rim the drinking vessel can be supported.
The recess may be substantially centrally located in the support member, and the support member may have a generally circular configuration.
The support member may be in the form of a saucer with the recess extending downwardly from the middle thereof.
The drinking vessel may be in the form of a mug, cup or glass.
The invention also provides a support member for a drinking vessel, the
support member being according to any of the preceding six paragraphs.
An embodiment of the present invention will now be described by way of example only and with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Fig. 1 is a part sectional side view of drinking apparatus according to the invention; Fig. 2 is a sectional view through part of the apparatus of Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is a plan view of the part of the apparatus shown in Fig. 2.
The drawings show drinking apparatus 10 comprising a mug 12 and saucer 14. The mug 12 is of conventional configuration comprising a body 16, base 18 and handle 20.
The saucer 14 is of generally conventional configuration except that a downwardly extending recess 22 is provided in a central part thereof, the recess 22 being of a size to receive a tea bag or similar item. The recess 22 is surrounded by a rim 24 of a size to supportingly receive the base 18 of the mug 12. Extending outwardly from the rim 24 is a conventional upwardly curving flange 26.
In use the apparatus 10 can be used in a conventional manner. If a drink such as tea is provided in the mug 12 with a tea bag, once the drink has attained a required strength the tea bag can be removed from the mug 12 and placed in the recess 22. Thereafter the apparatus 10 can again be used in a conventional manner.
There is thus described a drinking apparatus of simple configuration, yet which provides a convenient location for receiving an item such as a tea bag.
The tea bag can be received in the recess without any spillage, and will be covered when the mug 12 is located on the saucer 14.
Whilst the described example shows a mug, different types of drinking vessels could be used such as cups or glasses, or more ornate mugs. The saucer could take a different form, and obviously can be provided to a required size for a respective drinking vessel. The apparatus may be made of ceramics, plastics material or any other appropriate material.
Whilst endeavouring in the foregoing specification to draw attention to
those features of the invention believed to be of particular importance it should be understood that the Applicant claims protection in respect of any patentable feature or combination of features hereinbefore referred to and/or shown in the drawings whether or not particular emphasis has been placed thereon.
Claims (12)
1. Drinking apparatus, the apparatus comprising a drinking vessel and a support member upon which the vessel can stand, the support member comprising a recess which can receive an item such as a tea bag.
2. Apparatus according to claim 1, wherein the apparatus is arranged such that the drinking vessel, at least partially closes the recess when standing on the support member.
3. Apparatus according to claim 2, wherein the apparatus is arranged such that the drinking vessel, substantially wholly closes the recess when standing on the support member.
4. Apparatus according to claim 3, wherein the support member comprises a rim around the recess, upon which rim the drinking vessel can be supported.
5. Apparatus according to any of the preceding claims, wherein the support member has a generally circular configuration.
