Abstract
The device comprises a litter tray 1 releasably attached to a hood 2 which defines an enclosed space with the tray. The hood has a doorway 3 which allows an animal to enter and leave the enclosed space. An aperture 4 in the the hood cooperates with duct 5 and extractor fan 7 to expel air, uncluding unwanted odours, from the enclosed space. The litter device may be adapted to vent air through an adjacent exterior wall (9) (Fig 2). The fan may be automatically operated by the sensing of an animal by an infra red sensor or by the movement of a hinged flap (not shown). The automatic operation may also include the activation of a perfumed aerosol (not shown).
Description
<Desc/Clms Page number 1>
Animal Litter Device This invention relates to an animal litter device and in particular a litter device for a domestic pet such as a cat or a dog Pet litter trays are widely available wherein the cat or dog is trained to leave deposits on an open tray. The tray, which is usually located indoors, gives rise to unwelcome odours and is open to view.
According to my invention there is provided an animal litter device which comprises a tray for accepting animal litter, the tray having a hood which defines an enclosed space with the tray, the hood having a doorway which allows an animal to enter and leave the enclosed space, the hood having an aperture, the device further comprising extractor means, the extractor means cooporating with the aperture to expel air, uncluding unwanted odours, from the enclosed space.
Specific embodiments of my invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which : Figure 1 shows an animal litter tray according to a first embodiment of my invention.
Figure 2 shows an animal litter tray according to a second modified embodiment of my invention wherein the animal litter device is adapted to vent air through an adjacent wall As seen in Fig. 1 the animal litter device comprises a tray 1 to accept animal litter. A hood 2 is releasably connected with the tray 1 to define an enclosed space. The hood has a doorway 3 which may be provided with a conventional hinged flap which allows an animal to enter and leave the enclosed space. The hood is provided with an aperture 4 which has disposed above it a duct 5. A filter 6 is interposed between the aperture 4 and the duct 5. An extractor fan 7, which can be battery operated, is mounted within the duct to extract air from within the enclosed space. When air is extracted from the duct 5 a circulation will arise wherein fresh air will enter the enclosed space via the doorway 3. The filter is adapted to absorb unwanted odours from within the enclosed space so that the air which is expelled from the duct is odourfree.
In a modified embodiment as shown in Fig 2, the animal litter device is adapted to vent air through an adjacent exterior wall 9. In this case a duct 8 connects the aperture in the hood 2 with an aperture in the adjacent wall. An extractor fan 10 is mounted at the aperture on the exterior wall The duct 8 is preferably flexible.
The litter device can incorporate an automatic device which activates the fan. This may take the form of a micro switch fitted to the hinged flap. Alternatively an infra red sensor can detect animal movement towards the doorway 3 to activate the fan. The automatic device may also activate an electrically operated perfumed aerosol which is commonly available. The aerosol is fitted to the inside or outside of the device.
Claims (14)
