Abstract

Moisture indicator for fitting to a standard disposable nappy 4. The moisture indicator preferably comprises a layer 1 impregnated with blue colouring and a layer 2 of tissue paper. A slightly wider layer 3 is preferably clear, waterproof plastic coated with adhesive. The indicator may be attached to a nappy 4, by removing a section of the outer layer of the nappy near the mid point. The indicator would stick over the hole so it comes into contact with the inside of the nappy. This would enable the blue colouring to disperse when wet and become visible through the clear plastic layer 3.

Description

<Desc/Clms Page number 1>
MOISTURE INDICATOR FOR FITTING TO A STANDARD DISPOSABLE NAPPY This invention relates to a moisture indicator that can be fitted to a standard disposable nappy.
Standard disposable nappies are well known, but suffer from the disadvantage that they do not indicate that they are soiled by either urine or faeces.
An object of this invention, when fitted to a standard disposable nappy, is to indicate when the nappy has become soiled with either urine or faeces.
Accordingly the moisture indicator when in contact with moisture (from either urine or faeces) changes colour from blue to white, thus indicating soiling of the nappy.
The moisture indicator is made from three layers: inner, middle, and outer. It consists of an inner layer of tissue paper impregnated with blue colouring. A middle layer of white tissue covers this inner blue layer. The outer layer, which covers the middle layer, is made from a thin clear plastic film.
Therefore when the inner blue layer becomes wet it leaks blue colouring on to the middle white tissue layer changing it to blue. The colour change is witnessed through the outer clear layer. The outer layer is made from a thin plastic film and hence prevents leakage of the nappy contents to the exterior of the nappy.
The moisture indicator is fitted to the mid point of the nappy. In order to fit the moisture detector to a standard disposable nappy the outer layer of the nappy has to be removed from the midpoint.
A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: FIGURE 1 shows the component layers of the moisture indicator FIGURE 2 shows a cross section of the moisture indicator FIGURE 3 shows a cross section of a standard disposable nappy fitted with a moisture indicator
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
As shown in Figure 1 the component layers of the moisture indicator consist of a blue tissue layer 1, a white tissue layer 2, and an outer clear plastic film layer 3. Layer 3 is larger than layers 1 and 2.
Figure 2 shows how the three layers are arranged. This arrangement allows the blue colour from layer 1 to pass in to layer 2 when wet. The changing of colour from white to blue in layer 2 is witnessed through the clear layer 3. The changing of the colour from white to blue indicates that the nappy is soiled.
Figure 3 shows how the moisture indicator is fitted to a standard disposable nappy 4.
The outer layer 3 is coated with adhesive and hence forms a watertight bond with the nappy 4, thus preventing contents of the nappy escaping to the outside.
