Abstract

The Time's Up adaptor has a case 1, with a connection for a phone socket 2, protruding from the rear. The connection 2, is used to connect into a phone socket as provided by a communication's company. The case 1, also has a speaker 3, on the front. This is used for producing an audible alarm. The case 1, also has a socket 4, to accept a phone or modem connection. Internally, the case 1, houses an electronic printed circuit board 5, which can detect a change in current caused by an out-going call being made. After a pre-determined time, the electronic printed circuit board 5, will send an audible alarm to the speaker 3. If this pre-determined time is not reached before the out-going call is terminated, the timer on the electronic printed circuit board 5, is reset, and the electronic printed circuit board 5, waits for the next out-going call.

Description

"TIME'S UP" "TIME'S UP"adaptor is used as an in-line adaptor between the phone socket and the phone/modem. It sense's the change in voltage made by an out-going call. If the line is active for a pre-defined time (e. g 55 minutes) an audible alarm is transmitted out of the speaker.
The application for which the device is intended, is for customers of communications companies such as BT who provide free calls in the evenings and at weekends, providing such calls do not exceed a given time (e. g 60 minutes).
People using this adaptor will be warned that their "TIME'S UP". At which time they can simply disconnect and call back.
This adaptor could be made more sophisticated by having a variable time-out, a choice of alarms, volume control and optional auto-disconnect after a pre-determined time.

Claims (7)

  1. CLAIMS TIME'S UP ADAPTOR 1. The Time's Up adaptor is a phone socket adaptor, comprising of an electronic circuit board, speaker and case.
  2. 2. The Time's Up adaptor as claimed in claim 1 is used as an in-line adaptor between a phone socket and a phone or modem connection.
  3. 3. The electronic circuit board as claimed in claim 1 senses a change in current caused by an out-going call.
  4. 4. If the outgoing call exceeds a pre-defined time (e. g 55 minutes), an audible alarm is transmitted through the speaker as claimed in claim 1. At this time the person making the call can simply disconnect and call back.
  5. 5. The application for the Time's Up adaptor as claimed in claim 1, is for customers of communications companies such as British Telecom, who provide free calls in the evenings and at weekends, providing such calls do not exceed a pre-determined time (e. g 60 minutes).
  6. 6. The Time's Up adaptor as claimed in claim 1 can be used with any phone circuit, analogue, digital etc, and any application, be it a voice or data transmission.
  7. 7. The Time's Up adaptor as claimed in claim 1, could be made more sophisticated by having a variable time-out, choice of alarms, volume control and an auto-disconnect option after the pre-determined time has elapsed. All of these functions could be set by the use of dip switches, which would be located on the case as claimed in claim 1.
