Abstract

237,234. Metropolitan-Vickers Electrical Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Kintzing, R.T.). July 19, 1924, [Convention date]. Intermittent resistance controllers; speed-maintaining systems. - Relates to a rotary contact device for intermitently short-circuiting resistances in order to control the speed of electric motors. According to the invention, a drum 5 faced with alternate conducting and insulating segments in contact with stationary brushes 7 rotates with a motor shaft 1, and may in addition receive a limited sliding movement from screw and nut members 19, 21. The sliding movement takes place whenever the speed of the shaft 1 departs from that of a master motor shaft 2, and the resulting displacement of the drum varies the effective intermittent resistance in such a way as to restore the normal speed. The drum is biassed to the middle of its range of movement by springs 25 preferably enclosed in internal longitudinal slots, thus ensuring re-engagement of the screw and nut. Specification 241,523 is referred to.
