Abstract
An insect guard 11 for preventing insects from entering a can 10 of drink is in the form of a bung press fittable into a drink outlet opening of the can and has a perforated portion 12 through which drink can pass into the mouth of the user. The perforations are sufficiently small to prevent an insect, the size of a fly or a wasp, from entering the drink outlet opening of the can.
Description
AN INSECT GUARD
This invention relates to an insect guard for preventing insects, particularly wasps, from entering a can of drink.
Many people are stung in the mouth by wasps which have entered a can of drink through the drink outlet opening in the can.
According to a first aspect of the present invention there is provided an insect guard for preventing insects from entering a can of drink, the insect guard being in the form of a bung press fittable into a drink outlet opening of the can and having a perforated portion through which drink can pass into the mouth of a user.
Preferred and/or optional features of the first aspect of the invention are set forth in claims 2 to 5, inclusive.
According to a second aspect of the invention, there is provided a method of preventing insects from entering a can of drink, comprising the step of press fitting an insect guard according to the first aspect of the invention into a drink outlet opening of the can.
The invention will now be more particularly described with reference to the
accompanying drawing which is a plan view of one embodiment of an insect guard according to the first aspect of the present invention press fitted into a drink outlet opening of a can.
Referring to the drawing, there is shown therein a can 10 of drink having a conventional drink outlet opening.
As shown in the drawing, an insect guard 11 in the form of a plastics bung has been press fitted into the conventional opening of the can 10.
The insect guard 11 has a perforated portion 12 of mesh-like form. In an 0 alternative embodiment, the perforated portion could be of grille-like form.
The perforations are sufficiently small to prevent an insect, the size of a fly or a wasp, from entering the drink outlet opening of the container.
The insect guard could be shaped to imitate the face of an animal.
The insect guard could be made available separately. Alternatively, as cans of drink are often sold in packs of four or six banded together by plastics strips, the insect guard could be moulded as part of the plastics banding and be removed after purchase.
The above embodiment is given by way of example only and various modifications will be apparent to persons skilled in the art without departing from the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
