Abstract

A sports sock includes shock absorbing, protective rubber bands which are located in the ankle area of the foot, thus reducing the risk of injury when playing sports. Preferably, the rubber bands are sewn into the sock during manufacture between two layers of material, thus forming an integral part of the article.

Description

TITLE.
PROTECTIVE SPORTS SOCK.
THIS INVENTION RELATES TO INTEGRATED PROTECTIVE SPORTS SOCK 1. This invention relates to flexible protection integrated into a combined sports sock, for all people who play a contact sport.
2. The ankle area is one of the most susceptible parts of the body to injury. In particular, modem football boots have no protection whatsoever for the ankle bone (malleolus) and the Achilles area. Tendon damage and bruising to this area is frequent. Modem boots are a fashion statement, unlike their older counterparts, which had leather protecting this vital area. Shin pads are often the only means of protection; but ironically, do not protect the most injury prone area of the lower leg.
The protective sporting sock would have the protection in just the right place permanently. Sports people would have less fear of being raked by some-ones studs. Injuries will always happen but any help in alleviating the problem should be welcome. Contact sports should be a lot safer.
3. The essential features of the invention are rubber or rubber substitute bands or discs inserted within two layers of sock material, within the ankle area of the sock. The inserted material would be like large thick rubber bands. The flexible discs or bands would be inserted during manufacture and sewn into place between the sock material. The flexible bands being an integral part of the sock would stretch and mould to fit the shape of the ankle area. There would be a number of these bands sewn into the sock. The flexible rubber discs would be hard wearing, lightweight, comfortable and above all protective. With two layers of sock material and the rubber protection the wearer would have the best of both Worlds protection and comfort.
4. A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which the principals of the protective sports sock can be seen. They would be a one-piece fitting incorporating the sock and the flexible protecting bands. Therefore being more comfortable to wear than ordinary hard protection. As the sock is a necessary part of the kit, its use is guaranteed, ensuring they are worn as the current socks are, making protection a part of the sportsmans way of life.

  1. CLAIMS.
    The protective sports sock feature the incorporation of protective rubber bands in the ankle area of the foot. This would protect contact sports people from the accidental or otherwise damage, caused when sharp or hard materials come into contact with the susceptible area around the ankle. By the fact of incorporating extra material and rubber to cushion rough contact with the area, sports people should have fewer injuries to this prone area of the body.
