Abstract
A screening deck B for separating material comprising different sized particles, comprises a plurality of transverse structural members C arranged transverse to the direction A of material flow on the deck and a plurality of longitudinal structural members D arranged substantially in alignment with the direction A material flow on the deck. Description
DESCRIPTION.
TITLE : AN IMPROVED SCREENING DECK.
This invention relates to a screening deck, which separates items larger and smaller than the screening deck aperture for use with vibratory machines.
Screening decks exist which are constructed of woven metal or synthetic materials to create a mesh, or from formed metal pieces.
Problems arising from the aforementioned are that * the apertures are plugged or blinded by particles that are near to the size of the aperture,
* in some cases smaller sized particles cannot be presented to the aperture because they sit atop larger particles and are unable to reach the aperture, * heavy particles require so much structural strength to be inherent in the screen deck that the relative percentage of open area is severely restricted.
The objective of this invention is to provide a screening deck which * minimises plugging and blinding, 'agitates the mixture of particles sufficiently to allow the maximum number of smaller particles to be presented to, and be allowed to pass through, the aperture, * maximises percentage of open area without compromising structural strength.
Fig. 1. demonstrates where mixed particles conveyed on vibratory conveying medium in direction of flow A. are being allowed to come into contact with the screening deck
B.
The deck apertures increase in their lateral dimension in the direction of product flow in order to allow the release of near size particles, the lateral structural members C. are sloped to assist trapped near size particles larger than the aperture to be released from the aperture.
The longitudinal structural members D. protrude through the screen deck B. with increasing height in the direction of product flow causing larger particles to be pitched and rolled allowing smaller particles sitting atop of them to be liberated, and the protrusions direct smaller particles towards the aperture.
The lateral and longitudinal members (C & D) give vertical strength and stiffness to the deck thus maximising the relative percentage of open area to the overall area of the screen deck.
Claims (2)
- CLAIMS 1. A screening deck for separating material comprising different sized particles, said deck comprising a plurality of lateral or transverse structural members arranged transverse to the normal direction of flow or movement of material on the deck and a plurality of longitudinal structural members arranged substantially in alignment with the normal direction of flow or movement of material on the deck, said transverse and longitudinal members defining a plurality of deck apertures, characterised in that: 'said deck apertures increase in their lateral dimension in the normal direction of material flow, . at least the upper region of the lateral structural members are upwardly inclined in the normal direction of material flow, 'at at least a portion of at least some of the longitudinal structural members extend above the level of the screen deck with increasing height in the normal direction of material flow.
- 2. A screening deck substantially as herein described with reference to the accompany drawings.
