Abstract

A hanging basket made of wire or plastic is disclosed. The basket has a plurality slots which run from the rim of the basket downwards. The open end of the slots at the rim is closeable by means such as a hook. The slots may reach to varying depths and allow mature plants to be place into the basket by passing the plant stem down the slot. Additionally, plastic rim may be clipped onto the basket rim in several pieces.

Description

A NEW DESIGN OF HANGING BASKET TO ALLOW FOR EASIER PLANTING OF AWIDE RANGE OF PLANT MATERIAL. TO BE REFERRED TO AS A'SLOT IN HANGING BASKET' THE BASKET TO BE MADE IN WIRE (USUALLY PLASTIC COATED) OR FROM PLASTIC MATERIALS.
THE SIZES NORMALLY RANGE FROM APPROXIMATELY 12"IN DIAMETER UP TO 24"OR MORE.
THE DESIGN IS BASED ON A SIMPLE MODIFICATION TO THE RIM OF THE HANGING BASKET. FOR A 12"DIAMETER BASKET THE RIM HAS ALTERNATE LONG AND SHORT SLOTS (6 OF EACH) EXTENDING TOWARDS THE BASE. EACH SLOT IS APPROXIMATELY 12MM. WIDE AND ALLOWS FOR A PLANT AND ROOTBALL TO BE SLOTTED DOWN INTO POSITION. SPHAGNUM MOSS OR SIMILAR IS USED IN THE TRADITIONAL MANNER TO RETAIN THE COMPOST IN THE BASKET.
THE TOTAL NUMBER OF RIM SLOTS RELATES DIRECTLY TO THE
DIAMETER OF THE BASKET IN INCHES. i. e. 16"diameter has 16 slots around the rim ONCE THE BASKET IS FULLY PLANTED THE RIM IS CLOSED AT EACH SLOT WITH A SIMPLE HOOK OR SIMILAR.
THE DESIGN ALLOWS FOR MORE MATURE SPECIMENS TO BE USED WHEN PLANTING THE BASKET TO GIVE AN INSTANT EFFECT.
THE DESIGN WILL ALSO ALLOW FOR EASIER AND FASTER PLANTING.

  1. CLAIMS 1. THE NEW HANGING BASKET DESIGN IS BASED ON A SERIES OF SLOTS EXTENDING DOWN FROM THE RIM OF THE BASKET. (FIG 1)
  2. 2. THIS DESIGN ALLOWS FOR MORE MATURE SPECIMENS TO BE EASILY & QUICKLY INSERTED AROUND THE BASKET.
