Abstract

A walking stick made of aluminium or plastic consists of a shaft, a handle (housing an electric flash light compartment, control switch and reflector) and a ground engaging member concealing a magnet. The electric flashlight, powered by batteries stored in a compartment within the handle and controlled by an on-off button also on the handle, is positioned so as to illuminate the path of the user and to act as a warning signal to those approaching the user. The handle also has an attached reflector (or red light) which is positioned at the opposite end of the handle to the main light and acts as a warning to those behind the user. A ground engaging member in the form of a rubber ferrule is attached to the base of the shaft and houses a magnet which can be used for the recovery of ferromagnetic objects such as cutlery . This modified walking stick offers enhanced safety and usefulness to anyone who requires its use.
