Abstract

A telescopic emergency dam comprises support posts 2 and fluid barrier panels 8 which when not in use are stored below ground in flap 7 covered storage cavities 10. During a flood emergency the posts and panels are raised from the cavities and fixed in an upper position with locking pins 5 to hold back flood water. A demountable emergency dam (Fig 3) comprising removable panels and support posts which in use are bolted to baseplates fixed to the ground is also disclosed.

Description

TELESCOPIC MINI DAM This invention relates to the Telescopic Mini Dam.
The Telescopic Mini Dam is designed to stop flooding to buildings including residential, commercial, industrial and other property If there is a threat of flooding, the Telescopic Mini Dam can be erected easily and quickly (just five minutes in the case of the average domestic property).
It will protect buildings and contents from flood damage and prevent temporary homelessness, and disruption to business and services such as hospitals There are two versions of the invention: (1) a fixed installation and ( (2) a demountable installation The fixed installation has telescopic slotted posts and panels constructed of galvanise steel which retract into covered cavities In the ground when not in use. Slotted metal brackets are also fitted to the walls of the property. In the event of threatened flooding, the telescopic posts can be raised by use of a key and secured upright by automatic locking pins Metal panels can then be raised by use of the key and these form a seal between the posts and between the posts and wall brackets, providing protection to vulnerable parts of buildings such as doorways Figure I shows how the Telescopic Mini Dam will appear when installed ready for use.
Figure 2 shows the design and structural concepts of the Telescopic Mmi Dam The demountable Mini Dam (Figure 3) has posts and panels which require storage off-site. In the event of a flood warning, they can be installed quickly and easily. The posts are affixed to baseplates with stud bolts and secured with threaded nuts. The panels are placed in shallow slotted fixings m the ground, made watertight with rubber seals
