Abstract

A table features non-slip top which, or portion thereof, slopes away from a users normal position of interaction with the table, to promote an obtuse angle in the users wrist as their arms rest on the leading edge of the table. This arrangement may promote a better posture, attenuating muscle aches when using an item such a computer keyboard on the table top. The leading edge may be shaped for comfort and / or padded. The table may be portable, collapsible with telescopic or folding parts and may have provision for various computer peripherals. In variant embodiments, the table-top may be integral with a computer monitor and / or fold up into a briefcase.

Description

E NGrlIC AhNITSE EhON FURNITURE ---------------------- The invention relates to a table and/or table and chs. ir combination ergonomically designed to suit computer usage.
It has been well documented that lengthy computer usage leads to strain in the neck, shoulders, back and arms. This is largely caused by holding the forearm in an unnatural position, hovering above the keyboard. Traditional desk/chair arrangements are key factors which cause the user to sit in uncomfortable positions and although many office chairs are adjustable the table or work surface is not.
This invention provides a desk-top that is adjustable in that it slopes downwards away from : the user. Once adjusted to the posture of the user, it allows the forearm to rest at a more natural, obtuse angle and be supported by the nearest edge of the table-top. This relieves the strain on the shoulders neck and back.
The essential feature of this invention is the fact that the table-top slopes away from the user. This may be fixed in position or adjustable on hinges and held in position by brackets, straps or ratchets. The table-top has a non-slip surface and the nearest edge to the user may be shaped for comfort and/or padded.
* The table can be made. along the lines of traditional office/home furniture but with part of the work surface adjustable or fixed in a sloping position. (see diagram 1) * The table-top feature can be incorporated into computer trolleys.
* The table can be portable, collapsable with telescopic or folding parts. (see diagram 2) * The table can be designed so that the computer can be protected within its structure and when collapsed and folded away may be transported like a briefcase. (see diagram 3) * Tht table/trolley provides for the use of a computer mouse a flat surface which may be optional i. e. attatchable or may be integral to the design.
* The table may provide storage space for office/computer equipment.
* The table may be designed with a chair tc match or for use with existing furniture.
* The table design may be integral to the structure of the computer.
