Abstract

An exercise paddle 1 for swimming having a swivel coupling 13 and hand grips 5. Preferably the blades 1 may rotate 180 relative to each other and the paddle may include a float ball (10, fig.2) which can act as a pivot for the paddle. Optionally the paddle may include adjustable grips 5 and a safety wrist strap 6. The ball may be fluorescent and have a rubber fender (11), the handle can be made from a sealed tube to give floatation to the standard panel.

Description

I PANEL A I SWIMMING EXERCISE PADDLE 1 Technical This invention relates to a swimming paddle for the purpose of making a water field) sport, body building, and Physiotherapy for the sick and disabled persons. backgrounds The majority of keep fit exercises are for the lower half of the body apart from weight lifting.
The disadvantages from using existing exercise and keep fit apparatus is the tremendous pressure and strain it puts on the unsupported body. essential According to the Present invention there is provided a swimming exercise paddle.
Technical the two blades of the paddle are joined in the middle by way of a swivel connector or features) a floatation displacement ball with a swivel connector built into one end, this allows the blades to rotate 180 degrees in either direction of each other, giving free movement of the wrists, also the hand grips are oval in shape and are set on the paddle handle in a horizontal position to the blades so you can feel the paddle position when swimming. Has the front blade enters the water in the horizontal position with a downward stroke the rear blade of the paddle with the movement of the wrist turns into the vertical position cutting through the water in an upward stroke with little resistance has it clears the water the arm passes over the head at the same time rotates the blade into the horizontal position ready for the next downward stroke and so on. Depending on the position of the hands from the blade can either increases or decreases the leverage of the blades in turn increasing or decreasing the pressure to the body, building up and exercising the muscles while the body is kept cool and the muscles are fully supported by the water. The ball is an optional if fitted it displaces the water in front of the swimmer increases the speed of the body through the water. It also gives life saying support to the exhausted, the sick and disabled person using the paddle for Physiotherapy The Ball also gives the swimmer confidence in the water. The paddle is connected to the body by a wrist strap with a short flexible safety cable.
Example A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Fig 1 shows a standard exercise paddle.
Fig 2 shows the paddle with a floatation displacement ball.
Fig 3 shows a breakdown of the ball and center swivel connector also illustrating the paddle left blade locking system and the right hand paddle blade swivel system.
Fig 4 shows the left paddle.
Fig 5 Shows the right hand paddle.
Fig 6 Shows the self grip hand grips.
Fig 7 A swimmer with a standard Paddle swimming with goggles, snorkel, flippers Fig 8 Shows a swimmer with Paddle and flotation displacement ball. I PANEL B I Referring to the drawings the following description relates to an exercise paddle.
Fig 1 Shows a standard exercise paddle, the paddle blade 1. and paddle blade handle 2. this handle is made from light weight tubing and is sealed to give flotation to the standard Paddle Fig 1. the self
grip handle fig 6. 5. that is oval in shape 15. is made to fit any size hand, for a large hand the larger side of the grip fits into the palm of the hand with the fingers wrapped round the smaller diameter side of the grip and alternative way round for those with a small hand 15. the oval shape of the grip allows the swimmer to feel the paddle position, the self grip is also designed to allow it to be compressed in a vice to change its position on the blade handle Fig. 2. depending which way round it fit your hand the best, the position is then set with the front face of the blade 1. facing downwards and horizontal to your hand, this allows the swimmer to keep the blade horizontal for the downward stroke and vertical for the upward stroke, to change the amount of exercise pressure applied to the arms and body simply change the position of the self grip 5 on the blade handle 2. moving the self grip towards the center of the paddle increases the pressure until it meets your exercise requirements.
Fig 4. shows the fix Paddle offset locking Key 4. that fits into the Key Way Fig 3.16. setting the paddle in a fixed position which is parallel to the 180 degrees recess 14. for the swivel paddle in one end of the Swivel Coupling 13. or the Ball 10 and is secured by a Tapered Flange Locking Nut 3. that nips the split tapered flange segments 12. onto the paddle handle 2. Fig 5 shows the swivel paddle with a stop dowel 8. that is locked into the recess Fig 3.14. in one end of the swivel coupling 13. or if fitted to the floatation displacement ball 10. this controls the 180 degrees of free swivel movement between the blades and is held in position by the tapered locating collar Fig 5.9. that is a integrated part of the blade handle 2. and secured by the tapered locking Nut 3.
Fig 2. shows the Paddle with a Flotation displacement ball 10 the ball acts as a pivot for the paddle and has the same effect to the body hull as that of the bulb on the front of a ships hull it parts the water increasing the speed of the body through the water also at the same time it gives the swimmer flotation support similar to that of a life jacket only with no resistance to the swimmer. The wrist safety band 6. is connected to the paddle by a flexible lead 7. to ensure the swimmer never becomes parted from the paddle. The ball 10. is protected by a rubber Fender 11.
