Abstract
A fluent material applicator, such as for applying tile adhesive to a surface, comprises a threaded rod 1 which extends through a treaded hole in a backplate 2 of a container 4 of material and locates into a collar on a pressure plate 3. Turning a handle on the threaded rod 1 causes the pressure plate 3 to be moved through the container 4, forcing material out through a plurality of nozzles C. In use, the container may be angled so that points A and B are in contact with a surface onto which the material is to be applied and then moved along whist material is dispensed. Spacers may be provided on the nozzles to distance them from the surface.
Description
Fluent Material Aoolicator The invention relates to the application of tile adhesive and the like.
When applying adhesive to tiles or surfaces to be tiled it can be very messy, awkward, wasteful and time consuming. Therefore this invention will be beneficial.
The present invention seeks to provide a tool that has a reservoir for adhesive and a means of applying it to a desired surface in a practical manner, is simple to produce and cheap to manufacture.
According to the invention a fluent material applicator comprises a threaded rod with a handle to create leverage, rotated through a back plate with a compatible female thread into a pressure plate with a collar on the back to house the end of the threaded rod which when rotated forces the pressure plate to move forward in the container forcing the adhesive or the like in the container to exit via nozzles onto the desired surface.
The invention will now be described in greater detail by way of example, with reference to the drawing, in which:
Fig 1/1. Threaded rod with handle
2. Back plate with compatible female thread
3. Pressure plate with collar on back
4. The container
Fig 2 Side view showing points A & B and the spacers on the nozzles in more detail
The threaded rod Fig 1/1 is rotated through the back plate Fig 1/2 protruding enough for the collar of the pressure plate Fig 1/3 to clip over the end of the threaded rod Fig 1/1.
The container Fig 1/4 is then loaded from the rear and the back plate Fig 1/2 is attached to the container.
Holding the handle of the container Fig 1/4 in one hand and the handle of the threaded rod Fig 1/1 in the other and by having the container at such an angle to allow points A &
B to be in contact with the desired surface and rotating the threaded rod Fig 1/1 the pressure plate Fig 1/3 is moved forward in the container Fig 1/4 forcing the contents of the container Fig 1/4 out ofthe nozzles of the container Fig 1/C and onto the desired surface. The container Fig 1/4 is then drawn along the desired surface while rotating the threaded rod Fig 1/1.
It will be understood that a number of modifications of, or additions to, may be made to the described device.
For example
The back plate could form part of the container and the container loaded from a different aperture in the container.
The back plate could be hinged.
The thread could be altered to change distance of travel per turn.
The handles could be altered to increase pressure on the thread or to improve comfort.
The nozzles in the container could be altered to change the amount and or, design of the release of the tile adhesive or the like.
The projection of the nozzles could be altered to make application more comfortable.
The shape of the nozzles could be altered to change the amount and or, design of the release of the tile adhesive or the like.
The shape of the container could be altered to hold less or more adhesive or the like.
The shape of the container could be altered to reduce the resistance within the chamber.
The comers of the container could be rounded.
The amount of nozzles could be altered.
The nozzles could be removable and capped.
