Abstract

An exercise device 1 comprising a base member 2 adapted to rest on the ground, a platform 3 to support the back of a person, and a connector 4 connecting the platform above the base allowing the platform to rotate relative to the base. In use a person can lie on the platform and rotate around the base by walking with the feet on the ground, thus providing good exercise for the stomach muscles. The platform 3 may be contoured to provide additional support for the back, neck and upper torso. The height of the platform 3 above the base 2 may be adjustable and the platform 3 may also tilt relative to the base 2.

According to the present invention there is provided an exercise device comprising a base member to adapted to rest on the ground, a platform to support the back of a person, and a connector connecting the platform above the base allowing the platform to rotate relative to the base, in use a person can lie on the platform and rotate around the base by walking with the feet on the ground thus providing good exercise for the stomach muscles.
Preferably the connector further allows the platform to tilt relative to the base. The connector may be a ball and socket joint between the platform and the base.
Preferably the platfon-n is shaped to support the back of a user.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing showing a perspective view of one embodiment.
Referring to the drawing there is shown an exercise device 1. Device I has a generally hemispherical base 2 which may be formed of any suitable material such as plastics or glass fibre. Base 2 is designed to sit on the ground, such as on the floor of a room. The bottom of the base 2 may be coated with a non-slip material such as a layer of rubber or similar material.

A platform 3 is provided which has an upper surface shaped or contoured to support the back of a person lying on the platform. Platform 3 may be moulded from plastics material or glass fibre. The platform 3 is contoured in a similar manner to a tractor seat with a raised rear section 3A to support the neck, two raised side sections 313,3C to support either side of the upper torso, and a lower central dish section 3D to support the back.
A connector 4 is provided having a plate 4A connected to the underside of platform 3 by means of bolts 5A,5B,5C,5D. Plate 4A is connected to a connector threaded shaft 4B by means of a ball 4C on the plate 4A engaging in a socket 4D on shaft 4B (see cross section inset). Shaft Q is screwed into the top of base 2.
Connector 4 thus allows the platform 3 to rotate relative to the base and also to tilt relative to the base. The height of the platform 3 above the base can be adjusted by screwing the shaft 3B in or out of the base.
In use a person can lie on the platform with the head overhanging the platform and supported by the hands and with the neck supported on the raised section 3A. The feet are then placed flat on the floor and the bottom lifted off the floor. The person can then walk around the base side stepping from left to right or from right to left. This creates a good exercise for the stomach muscles.

The invention may take a form different to that specifically described above. For example the platform could be of a different shape and/or could be padded. The connector could be other than a ball and socket joint and could just allow rotation of the platform relative to the base.
Further modifications will be apparent to those skilled in the art without departing from the, scope of the present invention.

Claims (8)

  1. CLAIMS 1. An exercise device comprising a base member to adapted to rest on the ground, a platform to support the back of a person, and a connector connecting the platform above the base allowing the platform to rotate relative to the base, in use a person can lie on the platform and rotate around the base by walking with the feet on the ground thus providing good exercise for the stomach muscles.
  2. 2. An exercise device according to claim 1, wherein the connector further allows the platform to tilt relative to the base.
  3. 3. An exercise device according to claim 2 , wherein the connector may be a ball and socket joint between the platform and the base.
  4. 4. An exercise device according to claim 1, 2 or 3 wherein the connector allows adjustment of the height of the platform above the base.
  5. 5. An exercise device according to any preceding claim wherein the platform is shaped to support the back of a user.
  6. 6. An exercise device according to claim 5 wherein the platform has a raised rear section to support the neck and two raised side sections to support either side of the upper torso of a user.

  7. 7. An exercise device according to any preceding claim wherein the bottom of the base is coate( with non-slip material.
  8. 8. An exercise device substantially as hereinbefore, described with reference to and as shown in the accompanying drawings.
