A container (a bottle 1), contains one or more stones 2 and an aromatherapy oil which may comprise a blend of essential oils 3. The stones 2 may be gemstones, precious metals or the like. The stones 2 impart to the oil 3 beneficial/therapeutic properties. Examples of suitable stones 2 include pearls, amethyst crystals, quartz crystals including rose quartz and clear quartz, green tourmaline, amber, gold, copper and silver. The oil 3, having been in contact with the stones 2 for more than 12 hours, may be used in a conventional manner as an aromatherapy oil with improved therapeutic properties.

Description

<Desc/Clms Page number 1> Improvements in-Substances foruse in Aromatherany The present invention relates to improvements in substances for use in aromatherapy, in particular, to improvements in aromatherapy oils and to aromatherapy oils for use in a method of therapy by external application to the human body.
Aromatherapy oils are well known and it is widely accepted that their use by external application to the human body, for example by massage, can be beneficial. The present invention seeks to improve those beneficial effects and to provide an aromatherapy oil having improved beneficial effects.
Accordingly, the present invention provides a container containing aromatherapy oil and a stone, said stone being in contact with said oil. The term "stone" as used with reference to the present invention means a gemstone, a solid mineral, fossils such as amber, a crystal or the like or a solid piece of metal.
The stone is such that the aromatherapy oil, being in contact with the stone, interacts with the stone which increases or improves the beneficial or therapeutic properties of the aromatherapy oil. It is believed that the interaction of the oil and the stone resulting in the improved beneficial effects may be at least partly explained by comparison with the ancient Indian medicinal science known as Ayurveda. One
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
remedy according to Ayurvedic practices involves the use of gemstones. An example of such a remedy is a treatment of stomach problems (for example ulcers or the condition known as irritable bowel syndrome). The remedy comprises leaving pearls in water for a given period of time, the water then being drunk by the patient. Ayurvedic physicians contend that the water absorbs subtle elemental vibrations from the pearl, thus imparting beneficial therapeutic properties to the water.
Aromatherapy oils are widely accepted to have beneficial or therapeutic properties. The beneficial or therapeutic properties of the aromatherapy oils resulting from the present invention improve upon those of the aromatherapy oils of the prior art, by virtue of the oil having been in contact with the stone. It is further believed that the interaction between a stone and oil is greater than the interaction that would occur if the stone had been in contact with water. The resulting oil may be massaged into the skin, or absorbed by the body by other conventional means, the beneficial properties passed from the stone into the oil being passed on to the patient.
Preferably, the percentage by weight of the content of the stone or stones in the container is between 0.1'i and 4015, more preferably between l-. and 30*1, and yet more preferably between S*i and 30*-..
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
The container may contain one or a plurality of stones. Preferably the stones are of substantially the same composition.
The stone is preferably a crystal, preferably a crystal believed to have healing properties. For example, the stone may be any of the following: amethyst crystal, quartz including rose quartz, cytrine quartz and clear quartz, tourmaline, especially green tourmaline, chalcedonies such as carnelian, and agate, for example, green agate. The stone may be a gemstone, such as for example, sapphire, including yellow sapphire, emerald, or ruby. The stone may be a pearl. The stone may be a piece of amber. The stone may be a metal such as, for example, any of the following gold, copper and silver. The stone could, of course, be made of other types of metal, if such a metal, were found to impart beneficial properties to the oil.
The or each stone is preferably less than 10mm in diameter, and preferably greater than imm in diameter. For example, the or each stone may have a greatest diameter of about 5mm. Such a size is small enough to allow sufficient interaction between the or each stone and the oil, but is large enough to enable, when the oil is being applied to the skin of a patient, the stones to be prevented from also being applied directly to the skin, which could cause scratching or the like. The or each stone is preferably in tumbled form.
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
Stones of tumbled form have relatively smooth edges, and few, if any sharp edges.
The aromatherapy oil comprises at least one type of essential oil. Preferably, the aromatherapy oil comprises a base oil and one or more essential oils. The base oil preferably comprises one or more vegetable oils. A suitable base oil comprises, for example, sweet almond oil (the largest constituent of the base oil) , grape seed oil, light coconut oil and sesame oil (the smallest constituent of the base oil). The essential oil part of the aromatherapy may accounts for at least 2-. by volume of the aromatherapy oil and more preferably at least 3-.. Preferably, the essential oil part of the aromatherapy oil comprises a blend of essential oils. The blend of essential oils may comprise one of more of the following essential oils: rose absolute, Mysore sandalwood, bergamot, ylang ylang, lavender, Clary sage, benzoin, chamomile roman, frankincense, eucalyptus, rosemary, cajeput, cyprus, juniper, geranium, grapefruit, and lemon. of course, other essential oils not listed here may also be used.
Advantageously, the stone has been in contact with the aromatherapy oils for longer than 12 hours, and preferably for 24 hours or more. Such a minimum length of time is believed to be advantageous as it allows the beneficial properties of the or each stone to pass into the oil.
Preferably, the volume of the liquid comprising the aromatherapy oils in the container is greater than 5ml and
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
may, for example be at least 20ml. The container is conveniently a bottle, but may be any other form of container that allows the oil to contact the or each stone for a period of at least 12 hours. For example, the container may be an open container such as a dish or bowl.
A container may conveniently contain between 5ml and 10ml of liquid, comprising the aromatherapy oil, and one or, more preferably, two stones. Such a quantity is sufficient for at least a single application in respect of a typical patient. The container and its contents may be scaled upwards, so that, for example 4 or 5 stones are provided with 20ml to SOml of liquid.
The present invention also provides a combination of aromatherapy oil and a stone, the aromatherapy oil having been in contact with the stone for more than 12 hours, wherein the aromatherapy oil is for use in a method of therapy -by external application to the human body. Such a combination is advantageously provided in a container. The container may, of course, be a container as described above with reference to the present invention.
Trials indicate that the benefits of the aromatherapy treatment, where the oils have been in contact with stones, in accordance with the present invention, is greater than the effect of either the stones without the oil or the oil without the stones. The trials also indicate that the benefit of the application of the oil according to the present invention is
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>
perceived to be greater than the combined benefit of separate treatments with the oil (having not been in contact with the stones) and the stones (having not been in contact with the oil).
According to a further aspect of the present invention, there is also provided aromatherapy oil, for use in a method of therapy by external application to the human body, wherein the aromatherapy oil has been in contact with a stone for more than 12 hours, and preferably more than 24 hours. Other features of the present invention may be incorporated into this aspect of the invention.
The present invention also provides a kit of parts for use in making a container or a combination according to the above described invention, the kit comprising aromatherapy oil and a stone. The kit may be such that it is suitable for making a container or a combination incorporating any other features of the present invention described above.
By way of example, some embodiments of the invention will now be described, with reference to the accompanying drawing, which shows a bottle containing a plurality of stones and a blend of essential oils.
According to all of the embodiments hereinafter described of the invention there is provided a bottle 1, containing four tumbled stones 2 and 25ml of aromatherapy oil 3 including a blend essential oils. Each of the stones are about 5mm in diameter. The stones 2 in contact with the oil impart to the
<Desc/Clms Page number 7>
oil 3 beneficial and therapeutic properties. It is believed that the stones absorb a form of energy from the oil. It is believed that the energy passed from the stones is in the form of subtle elemental vibrations.
The oil 3 comprises a base oil and a blend of essential oils. The base oil comprises sweet almond oil (the largest constituent of the base oil), grape seed oil, light coconut oil and sesame oil (the smallest constituent of the base oil). The essential oils accounts for about 4*-. by volume of the aromatherapy oil. The oil 3 is left in contact with the stones 2 for at least 24 hours, and thereafter may be used in a conventional manner as an aromatherapy oil. For example, the oil may be massaged into the skin.
The beneficial effects of the oil will depend upon the combination of essential oils and stones used. When treating the kidneys, the adrenal glands, and when treating for lack of energy stones such as ruby and carnelian may be used. When treating the digestive system, the immune system or trying to detoxify the body, stones such as amber, cytrine quartz and yellow sapphire may be used. When treating the heart or lungs emeralds or agate may be used. When treating to promote healthy skin pearls may be used. Gold or copper nuggets may be used when treating problems associated with joints (for example when treating arthritis, rheumatism or the like). The essential oils are chosen in accordance with aromatherapy techniques in accordance with the purpose of the treatment.
<Desc/Clms Page number 8>
Some examples, according to different embodiments of the invention, are given below.
Oil from the combination of rose quartz stones with oil including a blend of the essential oils lavender, Clary sage, benzoin, and chamomile roman, is used for promoting relaxation and/or better sleep in the patient.
Amethyst crystals together with a blend of the essential oils cyprus, juniper, geranium, grapefruit, and lemon are used for cleansing and detoxifying purposes, for example, if it is desired to strengthen the immune system of a patient and/or to benefit the lymphatic system.
Green tourmaline with a blend of rose absolute, Mysore sandalwood, bergamot, ylang ylang, essential oils and lavender are used for relieving anxiety, reducing panic attacks and calming the heart, for example, reducing heart palpitations.
Clear quartz crystal and a blend of frankincense, eucalyptus, rosemary, benzoin, and cajeput essential oils are used for producing feelings of clarity and positivity in the patient.
other combinations of stones and oil are, of course, pos6ible.
