Abstract
A device for drafting patterns on cloth sheets, comprises a transparent plate having a number of equally spaced intersecting longitudinal and lateral lines 12 forming grids 13 and intersection points 30. The edges of the plate include a graduation 20 formed by dots and coloured indicating points 28. The middle longitudinal line 21 includes holes 14 for engaging pen points in drafting circles (80, Fig 9) or curved lines. Inclined lines 18 intersect the holes for drafting lines (71, Fig 8). Parallel short lines 15, sub-divided into segments by lines 16, are provided in each of the grids.
Description
<Desc/Clms Page number 1> DRAFTING DEVICE The invention relates to a drafting device for drafting various points and/or lines and/or circles and/or curved lines and/or patterns on sheet members.
Typical drafting devices comprise a rectangular body having a metric or British graduation provided on one or a11 of the peripheral edges thereof. US Patent No. 4,641.436 to Tzen et al., and US Patent No. 4,734,993 to Pan, disclose two different types of the rulers or of the drafting devices having one or more straight grooves formed in the body. However, the drafting devices may be used for drafting straight lines or parallel lines or perpendicular lines only.
It is accordingly an object of the present invention to provide a drafting device for drafting various kinds of lines or patterns on sheet members.
According to the present invention there is provided a drafting device comprising a body including a plurality of longitudinal lines and lateral lines intersected with each other for forming a plurality of grids and intersected points on the body, and the body including at least one side edge having a plurality of graduation dots each of which includes an indicating point.
The sheet members, such as the cloth sheets may be easily and quickly drafted with the required patterns thereon with only one of the drafting devices without

the other drafting rulers or instruments.
The graduation dots and the indicating points include different colors. A middle longitudinal line includes at least one hole formed therein for engaging a pen point of a nib into the hole and for drafting circles or curved lines.
The body includes at least one second line intersected with the hole of the body and inclined relative to the longitudinal lines and the lateral lines of the body for drafting inclined lines on the sheet members. The body further includes at least one second line provided in each of the grids and includes at least one segment intersected with the second line.
The longitudinal lines and the lateral lines of the body each includes a plurality of graduation points formed therein. The graduation points each includes a color different from that of the longitudinal lines and the lateral lines of the body such that the lines and the graduation points may be easily located or found or identified. The longitudinal lines and the lateral lines of the body each includes a reference numeral provided therein for indicating a number of the longitudinal lines and the lateral lines.

drafting device: FIG. 3 is a top plane view of the drafting device: FIG. 4 is an enlarged partial upper perspective view of the drafting device; FIG. 5 is a further enlarged partial upper perspective view of the drafting device; FIG. 6 is an enlarged partial upper perspective view similar to FIG. 4, illustrating the other application of the drafting device: FIG. 7 is a perspective view of a sheet member drafted with the drafting device; and FIGS. 8, 9, 10 are perspective views illustrating the operation of the drafting device.
Referring to FIGS. 1-6, a drafting device comprises a plate body 11 having rectangular or other shapes and having a number of lateral and longitudinal lines 12 intersected with each other for forming a number of squares or grids 13 and intersected points 30 (FIG. 3) on the upper surface of the body 11. The points 30 may be a square or the other shapes. The lines 12 may each includes a number of graduation points 22 (FIGS. 4, 6) which may have a different color from that of the lines 12, such that the lines 12 and the graduation lines 22 may be clearly seen by the users. The body 11 is preferably made of transparent materials. A number of holes 14 are formed in the body 11, such as formed in the middle longitudinal line 21.
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
One or more of the nibs or the pen points 80 (FIG. 9) may be engaged through the holes 14 for drafting curves or circles on the sheet members 70, such as the clothes 70.
A graduation 20 is provided on one or more of the peripheral edges of the body 11, and may be a metric or a British graduation, and is formed by a number of dots. The dots of the graduation 20 each includes an indicating point 28 which preferably includes a different color from that of the dots of the graduation 20 (FIGS. 4-6), such that the graduation 20 may be clearly seen by the users. The sizes or the lengths or the widths of the squares or grids 13 may be any size, such as 2.54cm, 7.2cm, 12cm, etc., and are not required to be equal to an integral number of unit, such as 18cm, 24cm etc. A series of numbers 17 are provided on the lines 12 for indicating the numbers of the lines 12 or of the grids 13.
One or more lines 15 may further be provided in each of the squares or grids 13 and preferably parallel to each other, and each may be separated into one or more segments with line segments 16, best shown in FIGS. 4-6. The lines 15 may be extended over the lines 12 (FIG. 4) or are not intersected with the lines 12 (FIG. 6). The lines 15 and the segments 16 are preferably formed with a graduation system, such as a British system, different from that of the graduation
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
20. which is preferably a metric system graduation. The sheet member 70 may thus be applied with various kinds of points or lines or patterns with different graduation systems, best shown in FIGS. 8-10.
A number of inclined lines 18 are further provided on the body 11, and may be formed on either the upper or the lower or both of the surfaces of the body 11. The lines 18 are intersected with one of the holes 14 which forms as a center hole for the lines 18. One of the lines 18 may be provided as a base line or may be engaged with the edge or side of the sheet member 70 (FIG. 8) for drafting the inclined lines 71 or the other lines or patterns 72 on the sheet member 70 (FIG. 7).
The drafting device is designed and suitable for drafting various kinds of lines or circles or curved lines or patterns on the cloth sheets. The cloth sheets may be easily and quickly drafted with the required patterns thereon with only one of the drafting devices without the other drafting rulers or instruments.
