Abstract

The net for catching falling leaves comprises a triangular sheet of netting 2 having pegs 10 and handles 4, 8 at each apex. The net can be secured to the ground under a tree using the pegs and lifted from the ground with the leaves thereon using the handles. The sheet is preferably in the shape of a right angled triangle and is truncated at its ninety degree apex. This allows the nets to be positioned around trees (20) in a modular fashion with the truncated apex butting up to the trunk and their adjacent sides positioned together (fig 2c).

Description

<Desc/Clms Page number 1> Title: Net The present invention relates to a net for catching leaves.
When leaves fall off a tree in a garden, a large proportion of the leaves fall onto the ground below the tree. As a result, people spend many hours at a time in their gardens raking or sweeping up the leaves, or even using a leaf collecting machine. This needs to be done several times during the autumn period.
The invention seeks to provide a net for catching leaves to prevent this problem. According to the present invention there is provided a net for catching leaves comprising a generally triangular sheet of netting having a peg and a handle for each apex, whereby the net can be secured to the ground under a tree using the pegs and lifted from the ground with leaves thereon using the handles.
Preferably each triangular sheet is substantially a right angled triangle, whereby four nets can be placed around a tree with adjacent edges joining one another.
Preferably one apex of the triangular sheet is truncated so that it can be positioned adjacent a tree. Preferably the truncated apex is at the right angled apex of a right angled triangle.
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
Preferably each handle is a loop of cord to which a peg is secured, and preferably each peg has a hoop which can be grasped to withdraw a peg from the ground.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 shows a perspective view of a net, Figure 2A shows a schematic view of use of a net with a tree in a corner Figure 2B shows a schematic view of use of two nets with a tree against a wall, and Figure 2C shows a schematic view of use of four nets with a tree.
Referring to the drawing there is shown a net 1 for catching leaves. Net 1 comprises a generally right angled triangular sheet of netting 2 which is truncated at the "right angled" apex 3. At apex 3 are a pair of handles in the form of loops 4A,48 of cord which each respectively pass through hoops 5A,58 of ground pegs 6A,68. The other two 45 degree apexes 7A,78 also have a loop of cord 8A,88 which each respectively pass through hoops 9A,98 of ground pegs IOA,lOB.
In use the net 1 can be secured under a tree by pushing the ground pegs 6A,68,1 OA, l OB into the ground. When the leaves fall on the net, the pegs 6A,68,1 OA, 1 OB can be withdrawn using the hoops 5A,5B,9A,9B as handles, and the net carried away using the loops 4A,4B,8A,8B.
The net of the invention is generally triangular so that one or more can be used in different circumstances as shown in Figures 2A,28 and 2C.
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
In Figure 2A there is shown a tree 20 in the corner of a wall 21 such as the corner of a fence in a garden. In this case only one net 1 is required to catch the leaves under the tree.
In Figure 213, there is shown a tree 20 bordering a wall 21 such as a fence in a garden. In this case two nets 1 are required to catch leaves under the tree.
In Figure 2C there is shown a tree away from any wall. In this case four nets 1 are required to catch leaves under the tree.
It will be seen that the truncated apex 3 allows two or more nets to be positioned around a tree with adjacent edges joining one another (the nets can be brought together closer than that shown in the drawing).
The invention may take a form different to that specifically described above. For example the handles and pegs could be of a different design. Also the generally triangular shape may include a quadrant of a circle so that four nets would form a circular net under a tree. Also one or more nets could be secured to hang under a tree (e.g. secured to the branches of a tree such as with ties or hooks) rather than lie on the ground, and in this respect a joining mechanism may be provided to secure the edges of two adjacent nets together to make a continuos net out of two, three or four triangles. Such a joining mechanism could include hooks or zips.
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
The net of the invention may be made of any suitable material, but is preferably formed of synthetic material to prevent it from rotting. The net may be coloured, e.g. green or brown, to blend in with a garden environment. The ground pegs may be plastic.
Further modifications will be apparent to those skilled in the art without departing from the scope of the present invention.
