Abstract

A desk mountable stand 1 comprises a base 2 and a platform 3 for a monitor or television 4 that is spaced from base 2 and whose height, attitude and horizontal position relative to base 2 can be adjusted. Platform 3 is preferable spaced vertically from base 2 by a pair of telescoping members 6A, 6B that are operated by a gas or spring-operated lift via lever 7 and preferably has a groove 10 on its underside which cooperates with slider plate 9 which is mounted on pivot 11, allowing platform 3 to be moved vertically, horizontally and to be tilted. Both base 2 and platform 3 may have recesses 2A, 3A for items such as stationary and may be made of wood or plastic. Telescoping member 6B preferably includes plate 8 so that it can be screwed onto base 2. Stand 1 may bear printed information.

Description

The present invention relates to a stand for an apparatus such as a computer screen.
Many people now work at a desk and can spend a considerable amount of time viewing & computer screen- Unless the screen is in the correct position, this can be harmful to the user and can result, inter alia, in eye strain, and neck and back problems. The invention seeks, to provide a solution to this problem.
According to the present invention there is provided a stand for an apparatus comprising: a) a base for mounting on a desk or other surface, b) a platform for supporting the apparatus, and c) spacings means to separate the platform from the base, the spacing means allowing adjustment of the height, inclination and horizontal movement of the platform relative to the base.
L The spacing means may include a pair of telescoping members to adjust the height of the platform relative to the base. The telescoping members may, include a lift, such as a spring or gas-operated lift, to telescope the members.
2 The spacing means may' include a pivot to adjust the angle of the platform relative to the -base.
The spacing means may include a slider which slides on the underside of the platform to adjust the horizontal movement of the platform relative to the base.
At least one recess may be provided on the platform and/or base to accommodate items such as stationery.
The invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing showing an exploded perspective view of one embodiment.
Referring to the drawing there is shown a stand 1 having a base 2 for mounting on a desk or other surface (tiot shown). A platform 3 is provided for supporting an apparatus such as a computer screen 4. Base 2 and Platform 3 may be formed of anysuitable material such as plastics or wood and may include one or more recesses 2A and 3A respectively to store items such as stationery.
3 A spacings means 5 is provided to separate the platform ft.om the base,. the spacing means allowing adjustment of the height, inclination and horizontal movement of the platform relative to the base as described below.
The spacing means 5 includes a pair of telescoping members 6A,6Rto adjust the height of the platform 3 relative to the base 2. The telescoping members may include a lift (inside the tubes so not shown), such as a spring or gas-operated lift, to telescope the members. The lift may be operated by lever 7 and may be similar to the t3r used on executive and operator chairs. Member 6B has a plate 8 secured to the bottom thereof for mounting on the base 2. Plate 8 may be secured to the base 2 by any suitable means such as screws (not shown).
The spacing means has a slider in the form of a slider plate 9 which slides in a groove 10 on the underside of the platform 3 to adjust the horizontal movement of the platform relative to the base.
Slider plate 9 is connected to the top of member 6A by a pivot I I to adjust the angle of the platform relative to the base. Pivot 11 may include a tensioning device (such as a wing nut on the end of a bolt forming the pivotal axis) to lock the slider plate 9 and hence the platform 3 at a particular angle relative to the base.
4 In use, an operator can adjust the position of the screen 4 to suit his or her particular requirements. The invention is particularly useful when one screen is shared between a number of users, -since the screen position can easily be altered to suit the current user at any one time.
The stand of the invention may be of any desired colour/s and may support printed information such as advertising messages. The stand may be used for apparatus other than computer screens, e.g. televisions.
Other methods of allowing the adjustment of height, angle and horizontal movement of the platform relative to the base may be used instead of the particular construction shown. For example two pairs of telescoping members may be used to support the platform above the base.
Further modifications will be apparent to those sIdIled in the art without departing from the scope of the present invention.

Claims (8)

  1. Monitor Stand 1. A stand for an apparatus comprising a) A base for mounting on a desk or other surface, b) A platform for supporting the apparatus, and c) spacing means to separate the platform from the base, the spacing means allowing adjustment of height, inclination and horizontal movement of the platform relative to the base.
  2. 2. The spacing means may include a pair of telescoping members to adjust the height of the platform relative to the base. The telescoping members may include a lift, such as a spring or gas operated lift.
