Abstract

A conventional screw operated jack prop with a threaded release collar is provided with a V-shaped leg portion 3 having two wedge portions 1, 2 which are moved by a threaded rod having two oppositely acting screw portions whereby the jack can be lowered to allow the collar to thereafter be easily released. The wedges are held between the leg portions e, f by pins moving in elongate slots a-d to allow relative sliding motion. The apparatus is used in forming shuttering in pouring concrete floors.

Description

1 QUICK RELEASE JACK 2362871 The invention relates to an adjustable jack
with a quick release as part of a falsework formwork system. This system supports poured concrete floors as part of constructing them in place.
Such systems are well known within the construction industry, but they all seem to have one common problem in relation to the adjustable jack. They don't undo as easy as they should or as advertised and quite often damaged in the process and need replacing.
The object of the invention is to have a quick release system on the base of the jack (LEG) to take the extreme pressure of the leg and in turn undo the adjustable screw on the jack easily.
This invention provides an adjustable leg with my invention on the bottom, which is two moveable wedges adjusted by a threaded bolt, as it moves it seperates the wedges and lifts the bottom up and takes the pressure of the main threaded coupler above.
Preferably the jack will be made from allumminium and also the quick release unit at the base. There is another heavy duty application of the same idea capable of taking more weight but would be made in steel.
FIGURE 1 shows a side view of the leg in two pars without wedges for clarity.
FIGURE 2 shows the adjustable wedges which can open and close when adjusting the threaded bar.
FIGURE 3 shows a plan on the base of the leg.
FIGURE4 shows a plan on the sliding wedges complete with 4 no 1Omm pins in order to connect to figure 3.
As shown in FIGURE 1 the leg comprises a threaded upright piece with a base which has sloping sides which accomodate the the adjustable wedges in FIGURE 2. Also the four slots in the side view a, b, c, d allow the pins to slide through and match the holes in FIGURE 2.
FIGURE 3 shows the plan view on the base of the leg in this view we can see the guides letters e and f which are also shown in side view in FIG 1. These guides are where the slots a, b, c, d, are located as in FIG 1.
FIG 4 is a plan view of the sliding wedges with the threaded bolt (different direction thread on each half) FIG 4 sits exactly down on FIG 3 and allows the pins g, h, i, j, to pass through the holes in FIG 2 a, b, c, d and hold the two in place while passing through the slots in e & f in FIG 1.
4 To summarize if we go to FIG 1 & 2 and put them together the wedges numbered 1 & 2 move apart as the bar is turned, the pins in a, b, c, d move from the centre out in the slots in e & f in doing so they actually lift no 3 in FIG 1 up and thus taking the pressure of the leg.
The quick sketch shows the leg & jack already in use with the new invention on the bottom. The problem was trying to undo coupler (a) as the weight was too much. With the quick release at the bottom it can be achieved faster & safer & damage free.

Claims (6)

  1. A jack with upper threaded leg connected to a lower foot section which is made up of two sliding wedges connected to a bolt with opposite direction thread on each half of bolt.
  2. A jack which takes a major concrete load as described in claim 1 and the load transfered into the lower section through the wedges & into the horizontal bolt.
  3. A jack where the downward loading on the vertical threaded jack is reduced by more than half as it is transferred through the sliding wedges into the horizontal threaded bolt.
  4. A jack as claimed in a preceeding description, by turning the horizontal bolt it seperates the wedges & lifts the bottom - most section via the dowel pins in the angled slots and thus releasing the load of the vertical jack.
  5. 5.
A jack which allows the operative to undo the load though the bottom load release mechanism quicker, easier and more safely before touching the threaded collar on the vertical threaded leg.
  6. 6. This vertical threaded leg & collar would have been the only way to undo such loads on any leg on any previous system up to now or to date.
A Jack or leg as claimed in any preceeding claim which can be made from alumminium or steel.
