Abstract
A release mechanism suitable for a stable door comprises: a tubular sleeve 8 housed within a casing that is mounted to either a door or a door jamb; means operable to impart sliding movement to the sleeve from a first position in which an end of the sleeve protrudes from the casing, and a second position in which the sleeve is withdrawn into the casing; a sliding bolt secured to the other of the door or door jamb; and a smoke or fire sensing means. With the sliding bolt extended towards the release mechanism and with the sleeve in the first position, such that it covers the bolt, the door is secured [Figure 3]. However, should the sensing means detect fire and/or smoke, the release mechanism retracts the sleeve into the casing and the bolt is released, thus enabling the door to be opened [Figure 4]. Preferably, the means for imparting the sliding movement of the sleeve comprises a solenoid 5 having an armature 4 which is movable in response to the fire or smoke sensing means to make contact with a trigger mechanism 1, 2, 11. The sleeve 8 may be biassed by a coil spring 10. Preferably, the solenoid 5 is activated by a relay 3 which is closed by the sensing means upon detection of fire and/or smoke.

DESCRIPTION OF QUICK RELEASE SMOKE / FIRE OPERATED COAXIAL STABLE DOOR RELEASE MECHANISM.
THE INVENTION RELATES TO A SMOKE / FIRE RELEASE MECHANISM, PRIMARILY TO FIr TO HORSE'S STABLE'S, BUT CAN BE FITTED TO ANY OTHER BUILDING HOUSING ANIMAL'S, WHERE AN AUTOMATIC ESCAPE ROUTE WOULD BE NEEDED.
SUCH RELEASE MECHANISM'S ARE NOT GENERALLY AVAILABLE ON THE MARKET.
WITH THE AMOUNT OF HORSE'S STABLED IN WOOD CONSTRUCTION BUILDING'S, AND THE ADDED RISK OF FIRE FROM STRAW BEDDING9 AND HAY,, FIRE IN A STABLE BLOCK PERHAPS HOUSING 16 OR MORE HORSE'S, COULD CAUSE AN INSURMOUNTABLE TASK FOR ONE OR TWO STABLE HAND'S1 UNLOCKING EACH PADDLOCK ON EVERY STABLE, WHILST THE FIRE IS MAYBE RACEING THROUGH THE BUILDING.
THIS INVENTION WOULD ALLOW EVERY STABLE DOOR TO OPEN AUTOMATICALLY ON THE FIRST SIGN OF SMOKE, THUS ALLOWING EACH HORSE TO ESCAPE THE FIRE, WHILST THE PADDLOCK REMAINED LOCKED.
ACCORDINGLY, THIS INVENTION PROVIDE'S A FIRE ESCAPE ROUTE FOR A HORSE FROM IT'S LOCKED STABLE. IN THE EVENT OF A FIRE.
THIS UNIT IS SIMPLE TO FIT, AND WOULD REPLACE THE EXISTING BOLT KEEP, WHICH IN THE EVENT OF A FIRE, WOULD AUTOMATICALLY RETRACT, LEAVING THE DOOR, WITH THE PADLOCKED BOLT INTACT9 TO SWING 2 FREE TO THE OPEN POSITION, ALLOWING THE HORSE TO EXIT.
THE LOCK IS MADE FROM 3MM STEEL OF WELDED CONSTRUCTION,, SO AS TO BE TAMPER PROOF.
2 A PROFFERED EMBODIMENT OF THE INVENTION; WILL BE DESCRIBED WITH REFERENCE'S TO THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWING'S1 IN WHICH IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT THE RELEASE MECHANISM WORK'S IN CONJUNCTION WITH A SMOKE DETECTOR OF REGULAR CIRCUITRY DESIGN, EXCEPT FOR THE ADDITION OF A RELAY9 WHICH TRIGGER'S A SECONDARY CIRCUIT FOR THE OPERATION OF THE ELECTROMAGNETIC COIL9 TRIGGERING THE RELEASE MECHANISM.

Claims (1)
1. A SMOKE OR FIRE OPERATED STABLE DOOR RELEASING MECHANISM COMPRISING A
TUBULAR SLEEVE HOUSED WITHIN A CASING SECURABLE TO EITHER A DOOR OR A DOOR JAMB, MEAN'S OPERABLE TO IMPART SLIDING MOVEMENT TO THE SLEEVE BETWEEN A FIRST PROTRUDING POSITION IN WHICH ONE OF IT'S END'S OLROTRUDE'S FROM THE CASING, AND A SECOND WITHDRAWN POSITION IN WHICH IT IS HOUSED WHOLLY OR SUBSTANTIALLY WITHIN THE CASING, AND A SLIDING BOLT SUPPORTED BY A KEEP PLATE SECURABLE TO EITHER A DOOR OR DOOR JAMB AND MOVABLE MANUALLY BETWEEN POSITION'S IN WHICH ONE OF IT'S EIND'S PROTRUDE'S INTO OR IS DISTANCED FROM AN OPEN END OF THE TUBULAR SLEEVE BEING ACTIVATED IN RESPONSE TO FIRE AND OR SMOKE SENSING MEANS TO CAUSE THE SLEEVE TO MOVE FROM IT'S PROTRUDING POSITION TO IT'S WITHDRAWN POSITION. A SMOKE OR FIRE OPERATED STABLE DOOR RELEASING MECHANISM AS CLAIMED IN CLAIM 19 WHEREIN THE MEANS FOR IMPARTING SLIDING MOVEMENT rO THE SLEEVE COMPRISES A SOLENOID HAVING AN ARMATURE MOVABLE IN RESPONSE TO THE FIRE OR SMOKE SENSING MEANS TO MAKE CONTACT WITH A TRIGGER MECHANISM INCLUDING A PIN INITIALLY IN CONTACT WITH AN ABUTMENT SURFACE OF THE SLEEVE AND REMOVABLE FROM SUCH CONTACT ON MOVEMENT OF THE SOLENOID -7 3.

A SMOKE OR FIRE OPERATED STABLE DOO-2 RELEASING MECHANISM AS CLAIMED IN CLAIM 2 OR 3 FURTHER INCLUDING A COIL SPRING CARRIED BY THE BOLT WHOSE ENDS ABUT AGAINST ONE INTERNAL WALL OF THE CASING ON AN ABUTMENT SURFACE OF THE BOLT. A SMOKE OR FIRE OPERATED STABLE DOOR RELEASING MECHANISM AS CLAIMED IN ANY ONE OF CLAIMS 2 TO 4 WHEREIN TEE COIL OF THE SOLENOID IS ACTIVATED TO RELEASE THE SOLENOID ARMATURE VIA A RELAY OPERABLE TO CLOSE IN RESPONSE TO THE FIRE OR SMOKE SENSOR.
6. A SMOKE OR FIRE OPERATED STABLE DOOR RELEASING MECRANISM AS HEREIN DESCRIBED WITH REFERENCE TO THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWING'S.
