Abstract

A book 1 eg for children, includes a strap 2 for attachment to the wrist of a user. The strap comprises two lengths of woven material 12a,12b and a buckle 13. Part 12b is provided with Velcro (RTM) type fastenings. The book 1 comprises front and rear covers 3,4, in between which are pages 5 attached at a spine 6. The covers 3,4 comprise laminates of rigid card. The book is closed by a clasp including a loop of elastic 9 stretched over a nose 10.

Description

2362352 1 A BOOK This invention relates to a book, which can be attached
to a part of the body of a user. In particular the invention relates to a book which can be attached to the wrist of a user.
It is often the case that a user needs to have a book to hand to refer to, whilst leaving the hands free to perform some manual task. Similarly, it would be useful for young children and their parents, if they could be provided with a book which could not easily be dropped, thrown, left behind or otherwise involuntarily lost.
It is an object of the present application to seek to address problems such as these.
According to the invention there is provided a book, including attachment means for attachment to a user.
It is preferred that the attachment means is adapted to enable the book to be attached to the wrist of a user.
The attachment means may comprise two parts which can be releasably joined. In particular one part may include a loop or ring, and the other part may be adapted to be passed through the ring or loop and releasably attached to itself.
The attachment means may comprise a strap or band of the book, disposed to enable the book to be read in use. The strap or band may be woven from a cloth material or the like. The strap or band may comprise or include an elastic material.

2 The book may be provided with a front cover and a back cover and the back cover is conveniently formed from a substantially rigid material. It is preferred that the strap or band is fixed to the back cover, more preferably at or adjacent an edge or edges of the back.
The book may be provided with a releasable clasp to clasp the covers together.
The invention will further be described by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a front view of a book according to the invention; z, Figure 2 is a rear view of the book of Figure 1; Figure 3 is a view of the book of Figure 1 from one side; Figure 4 is a view of the book of Figure 1 from the other side; Figure 5 is a plan view of the book of Figure 1; Figure 6 is an under-plan view of the book of Figure 1; and Figure 7 is a perspective view of the book of Figure 1.
Referring to the drawings there is illustrated a book 1, including attachment means 2 for attachment to a user (not shown). As will be appreciated, the embodiment illustrated is intended for use by young children. The book 1 comprises a front cover 3 and a back cover 4, in between which are pages 5 attached at a spine 6. The front 3 and back covers 4 comprise laminates of card 3 and are substantially rigid. The pages 5 are also laminates, but thinner than the covers. The pages 5 and covers 3,4 are joined by a tape 6 which provides a spine 7. The laminate construction of the covers 3,4 enables the tape 6 to be fixed by sandwiching it between layers thus providing a secure spine 7.
The book is provided with a clasp 8 which in this embodiment comprises a loop 9 of an elastic material which is anchored within the laminate of the back cover 4, providing a strong and easily manufactured fixing. At a corresponding position on the front cover 3 a nose 10 is formed. The elastic loop is dimensioned such that it must be stretched for it to fit over the nose 10, thus providing a secure clasp which will not come undone involuntarily.
Referring in particular to Figures 3 and 4, the attachment means 2 in this embodiment comprises a strap 11 to enable the watch to be worn about the wrist, like a watch. The strap 11 has two parts 12a and 12b, each comprising a length of a woven material. Each length is fixed to the back cover 4 by one end, conveniently trapped in the laminate. The part 12a is provided with a buckle 13, the end of the length being looped through the buckle 13 turned back on itself and fixed by sewing. The part 12b is provided with two velcro JFM) patches on one side, with a gap in between. This enables the part 12b to be passed through a loop of the buckle 13 and releasably secured back upon itself using the velcrr) R- M). Thus it can be seen from the description of this embodiment that the invention provides a book which can be attached to a part of the user's body such as the wrist to prevent it becoming inadvertently lost, and to allow the user to have it to hand whilst keeping the hands free. It will be appreciated that the invention has application in many areas, not only for use by little children. For example, the invention would have utility in any area where a person needed to refer to written instructions or data whilst performing a manual task, such as car maintenance, cooking, shopping and even some sports.

Claims (1)

  1. CLAIMS:
    1. A book, including attachment means for attachment to a user.
    2.
    A book according to claim 1, wherein the attachment means is adapted to enable the book to be attached to the wrist of a user.
    A book according to claim 1 or claim 2, the attachment means comprising two parts which can be releasably joined.
    4. A book according to claim 3, one part including a loop or ring, the other part being adapted to pass through the loop or ring and releasably attached to itself.
    A book according to any preceding claim, the attachment means comprising a strap or band of the book, disposed to enable the book to be read in use.
    A book according to claim 5, the strap or band comprising a woven cloth material.
    A book according to claim 5 or claim 6, the strap or band comprising or including an elastic material.
    8. A book according to any preceding claim, further comprising a front cover and a back cover, the back cover comprising a substantially rigid material relative to the pages.
    9. A book according to claim 8, the strap or band being fixed to the back cover.
    10. A book according to claim 9, the strap or band being fixed at or adjacent an edge or edges of the back.
    A book according to any preceding claim, including a releasable clasp to clasp the pages together.
    12. A book substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
