Abstract

The keyboard includes 10 alpha-numeric keys out of an overall total of 25 keys. The alpha-numeric keys may be arranged in a central cluster which is surrounded by the other keys. The keyboard includes all of the normal data entry function keys, with multiple functions provided by a combination of some keys. The keyboard may be used with predictive software to enable a user to type with the use of a small number of keys. The arrangement may be used in a desktop computer, laptop computer, hand held computer, television remote control unit, or other hand held data entry terminal.

Description

Compact Computer Kevboard 2362133 Principal features:
- 10 Keys for alphabetic entry - 25 keys in total - Numeric Lock, caps lock and shift, and 'key function' keys enable multiple use of keys Function keys placed around the cluster of 10 keys to provide normal function key facilities - Designed to run with predictive text software to enable typing using a small number of keys - Intended to be used for, palmtop and laptop computers where key size is an issue - remote controls where, for example, email is sent via a television - normal computers to save desk space The software to run the keyboard cannot be patented, but we anticipate the idea of the keyboard and its application can be.
Where space is at a premium, which it is as computers become smaller, such a keyboard can be used. As voice recognition software becomes more widely used, the keyboard will be partially redundant. Touch typing is possible at normal typing speeds when running predictive text software that also recognises the context a word is being used in, thus avoiding many of the possible multiple words matches for a given sequence of key presses and letter combinations.
