Abstract

A hinged bracket, in which the vertical side 2 utilises magnets 1 to fix the brackets to any upright steel structure 5. The horizontal side 3 is adjustable in the vertical plane and is held in any position by a spring screw 6. The horizontal side also includes a standard quarter inch tripod screw (7) this holds a mini laser level 4 in place. When the horizontal part 3 has been set level a datum mark for further work is provided by the laser beam on a target (9), which can be fixed to any steel surface by the magnet (11).

Description

2359362 1 Steel Leveller This invention relates to the erection of steel
brackets. steel gate posts, steel fence posts and any other structures to existing steelwork; where structures need to set at the same horizontal level.
The problem arises that a conventional spirit level is not long enough to bridge the gap between the structures, and the structures do not provide a level surface to mount a conventional laser leveller.
This invention provides an adjustable level surface that can easily be attached to any steel structure, together with a n adjustable target. This allows a readily available mini laser level to provide accurate level measurements over distances up to 50 metres.
This invention provides an adjustable bracket, with a row of magnets to the vertical edge, by raising or lowering the horizontal edge, a level surface is obtained for the mini laser leveller. The target is also mounted on magnets so that it can easily be fitted to the other structure.
The bracket is preferably made of metal for robustness, but could be made from a plastic material. A standard 1/4inch tripod screw is fitted to the horizontal to hold the mini laser in position Figure 1, shows a side view of the bracket and target, with mini laser in position.
Figure 2, shows a three dimensional view of the bracket, showmig the tripod screw.
Figure 3, shows the target being used on the vertical edge of the structure - Figure 4, shows the target beffig used on the horizontal edge of the structure.
As shown in Fig. 1, the vertical part of the bracket (2), is secured to the steelwork or fixture (5) by magnets (1). The horizontal part of the bracket (3) is secured by a fixing screw with spring washer to allow movement in the horizontal plane, but able to hold the horizontal bracket in selected position.
2 Figure 2, is a three dimensional view of the bracket showing the angle construction and a tripod screw (7) which holds the mini laser leveller in position.
Figure 3, shows the target fixed to the vertical edge of steel (8) by the magnets (11).
Figure 4, shows the target fixed to the horizontal surface of steel (8) by magnets (11).
When the bracket is secured to the steelwork (5) the horizontal part (3) can be raised or lowered so that the bubble (12) shows the laser leveller (4) is level. The spring screw (6) holds the bracket in this position. The laser leveller can be rotated on the tripod screw (7) to aim at the target.
Figure 5, the bracket assembly is fixed to the steel end plate (14) of a roller shutter door, by the magnets (1), so that the top of the horizontal bracket is level with the required level to be measured, i.e. top of the end plate. The horizontal bracket (3) is then adjusted up and down until the bubble (12) shows the mini laser (4) is level.
The target is fixed to the other end plate by magnets (11) in the vertical position (Figure 3). The mark (13) is level with the top of the end plate. This endplate is then positioned so that the laser light from the mini laser level hits the target at mark (10). Both end plates are then level.
