Abstract
A fixing device for an automatic door closing device includes a substrate (2) secured between a base (1) of the automatic door closing device and a doorplate (10). The substrate has a length smaller than a distance between the two fixing positions and thus located between the first fasteners (11) applied to the fixing positions. The substrate (2) includes at least one lug (22) formed on top thereof. The lug (22) rests on an upper side of the base (1) and includes a positioning hole (23). An outer casing (3) which may be decorative includes an open side for accommodating and thereby shielding and protecting the base (1) and the substrate (2). The outer casing (3) includes at least one slot (31) aligned with the lug (22) on the substrate (2). The outer casing (3) further includes an opening (32) that has an open end and aligned with a stub (12) on the base (1). A second fastener (24) is extended through the positioning hole (23) and the slot (31) to thereby securely attach the outer casing (3) to the substrate (2).

Background of the Invention
The present invention relates to a fixing device for an outer casing for an automatic door closing device, wherein a substrate is mounted between a base and a doorplate and a decorative outer casing is mounted to the substrate for covering and protecting the base of the automatic door closing device and for providing an aesthetically pleasing effect for the base of the door closing device.
Taiwan Utility Model Publication No. 190159, issued on Sep. 1, 1992 and entitled "ANTI-SLIDE STRUCTURE FOR A COVER PLATE OF AN AUTOMATIC DOOR CLOSING DEVICE", as shown in Fig. 8 of the drawings, discloses a cover plate 20 slidably engaged to cover an open side 11 of a base 10 of an automatic door closing device 1 for shielding screw holes 14 in the base 10. An anti-slide member 13 is mounted in the base 10 for exerting an outward force to the base 10 to thereby provide an anti-slide effect for the cover plate 20, thereby preventing undesired sliding movement of the cover plate 20. Nevertheless, the cover plate cannot be used to bases of different sizes. In addition, the base will be aesthetically unpleasing due to stripping of paint or corrosion after a term of use.
Summary of the Invention
It is a primary object of the present invention to provide a fixing device for an outer decorative casing for an automatic door closing device that is simpler in structure, wherein a substrate is secured between the doorplate and a base of the automatic door closing device. The base can be of any commercially available sizes. A decorative outer casing is secured to and thus supported by the substrate to allow easy attachment and removal and to provide an aesthetically pleasing effect for the base of the automatic door closing device.
It is a secondary object of the present invention to provide a fixing device for a decorative outer casing for an automatic door closing device, wherein the substrate is directly inserted between the base of the automatic door closing device and the doorplate, and 1 1 2 -1 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 fasteners are extended through positioning holes in the base to engage with the decorative outer casing. Thus, the base is shield and protected by the decorative outer casing. The decorative outer casing is replaceable and provides an aesthetically pleasing effect for the base.
In accordance with a first aspect of the invention. a fixing device is provided for an automatic door closing device having a base. The base is secured to a doorplate by first fasteners at two fixing positions thereof The fixing device comprises a substrate and an outer casing. The substrate is secured between the base and the doorplate. The substrate has a length smaller than a distance between the two fixing positions and thus located between the first fasteners applied to the fixing positions. The substrate includes at least one lug formed on top thereof The lug rests on an upper side of the base and includes a positioning hole. The outer casing includes an open side for accommodating and thereby shielding and protecting the base and the substrate. The outer casing includes at least one slot aligned with the lug on the substrate. The outer casing further includes an opening that has an open end and aligned with a stub on the base. A second fastener is extended through the positioning hole and the slot to thereby securely attach the outer casing to the substrate.
The slot of the outer casing includes an open end that faces a direction the same as that of the open end of the slot.
In accordance with a second aspect of the invention, a fixing device is provided for an automatic door closing device having a base. The base is secured to a doorplate by first fasteners at two fixing positions thereof The fixing device comprises a substrate and an outer casing. The substrate is secured between the base and the doorplate. The substrate includes two open slots through which the first fasteners are extended to secure the base and the substrate to the doorplate. The substrate includes at least one lug formed on top thereof The lug rests on an upper side of the base and includes a positioning hole. The outer casing includes an open side for accommodating and thereby shielding and protecting the base and the substrate the outer casing includes at least one slot aligned with the lug on the substrate.

A second fastener is extended through the positioning hole and the slot to thereby securely attach the outer casing to the substrate. Preferably, the slot of the outer casing is L shape and the open slots extend horizontally Other objects, specific advantages, and novel features of the invention will become more apparent from the following detailed description and preferable embodiments when taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings.

Fig. 1 is an exploded perspective view of a doorplate and a first embodiment of a fixing device for an automatic door closing device in accordance with the present invention.

Detailed Description of the Preferred Embodiments
Preferred embodiments in accordance with the present invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
Refeming to Fig. 1, a base 1 of an automatic door closing device of any commercially available sizes is attached to a doorplate 10 by fasteners 11. A fixing device in accordance with the present invention includes a substrate 2 that is secured between the base 1 and the doorplate 10 for attaching a decorative outer casing 3.
3 1 2 n 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 The substrate 2 secured between the doorplate 10 and the base 1 has a length smaller than the distance between the two spaced fixing portions of the base 1 to which the fasteners 11 are applied. Thus, the substrate 2 will not be damaged by the fasteners 11. Formed on top of the substrate 2 are two lugs 22 that extend along a horizontal direction. The lugs 22 rest on an upper side of the base 1 and thus prevent falling of the substrate 2. Each lug 22 has a positioning hole 23 for engaging with a fastener 24. The fastener 24 and the positioning hole 23 are preferably in threading engagement.
The decorative outer casing 3 includes an open side through which the base 1 and the substrate 2 are accommodated into an interior of the decorative outer casing 3 to thereby provide shield and protection. The decorative outer casing 3 may be engaged with the substrate 2. As illustrated in Fig. 1, two slots 31 (each preferably having an open end) and an 1 32 (preferably with an open end) are defined in an upper side of the decorative outer open ng 1 1 casing 33. The slots 31 are aligned With the positioning holes 23 of the substrate 2 and a stub 12 formed on the base 1 is enclosed by a periphery defining the opening 32.
Referring to Figs. 2 and 3, the substrate 2 is secured between the base 1 and the doorplate 10, in which the lugs 22 rest on the upper side of the base 1. The substrate 2 supports the decorative outer casing (now designated by 5) and is secured in place by fasteners 24.
Fig. 4 illustrates a second embodiment of the invention, wherein the substrate (now designated by 4) is longer and has an open slot 41 in each end thereof. Each open slot 41 is extended through by fasteners 11 for the base 1. Thus, the substrate 4 is firmly fixed between the base 1 and the doorplate 10. Formed on top of the substrate 4 are two lugs 42 that extend along a horizontal direction. The lugs 42 rest on an upper side of the base 1 and thus prevent falling of the substrate 4. Each lug 42 has a positioning hole 43 for engaging with a fastener 44.
The decorative outer casing 5 includes an open side through which the base 1 and the substrate 4 are accommodated into an interior of the decorative outer casing 5 to thereby 4 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 is 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 provide shield and protection. The decorative outer casing 5 may be engaged With the substrate 4. As illustrated in Fig. 4, two slots 51 (each preferably having an open end) and an opening 52 (preferably with an open end) are defined in an upper side of the decorative outer casing 5. The slots 51 are preferably L shape and aligned with the positioning holes 43 of the substrate 4 and a stub 12 formed on the base 1 is enclosed by a periphery defining the opening 52. The opening 52 has a length that is sufficiently long to allow sliding movement of the decorative outer casing 5 when the decorative outer casing 5 is attached to the base 1, best shown in Fig. 5. Thus, falling of the decorative outer casing 5 is prevented.
Fig. 6 illustrates a third embodiment of the invention, wherein the substrate (now designated by 6) has horizontal open slots 61 that are extended through by fasteners 11 for the base 1. Thus, the substrate 6 may be inserted into a space between the base 1 and the doorplate 10 and thus retained in place by the fasteners 11 that are extended through the open slots 61. Formed on top of the substrate 6 is a lug 62 that extend along a horizontal direction. The lug 62 rests on an upper side of the base 1 and thus prevents falling of the substrate 6. The lug 62 has a positioning hole 6-31 for engaging with a fastener 64.
The decorative outer casing 5 includes an open side through which the base 1 and the substrate 6 are accommodated into an interior of the decorative outer casing 5 to thereby provide shield and protection. The decorative outer casing 5 may be engaged with the substrate 6. As illustrated in Fig. 6, at least one slot 51 (preferably having an open end) and an opening 52 (preferably with an open end) are defined in an upper side of the decorative outer casing 5. The slot 51 is preferably L shape and aligned with the positioning hole 63 of the substrate 6 and a stub 12 formed on the base 1 is enclosed by a periphery defining the opening 52. The opening 52 has a length that is sufficiently long to allow sliding movement of the decorative outer casing 5 when the decorative outer casing 5 is attached to the base 1. The substrate 6 may be inserted into a space between the base 1 and the doorplate 10 and thus retained in place by the fasteners 11 best shown in Fig. 7. Thus, falling of the decorative outer casing 5 is prevented.
According to the above description, it is appreciated that the fixing device can be applied to all kinds of commercially available bases to provide required shielding and protecting purposes and to provide an aesthetically pleasing effect. In addition, the decorative cover plate may be replaced after a term of use to assure the aesthetically pleasing effect.
Although the invention has been explained in relation to its preferred embodiment as mentioned above, it is to be understood that many other possible modifications and variations can be made without departing from the scope of the invention. It is, therefore, contemplated that the appended claims will cover such modifications and variations that fall within the true scope of the invention.

Claims (5)
1. A fixing device for an automatic door closing device having a base (1), the base being adapted to be secured to a doorplate (10) by first fasteners (11) at two fixing positions thereof, the fixing device comprising: a substrate (2) adapted to be secured between the base (1) and the doorplate (10), the substrate having a length smaller than a distance between the two fixing positions and thus located between the first fasteners (11) applied to the fixing positions, the substrate (2) including at least one lug (22) formed on top thereof, said at least one lug (22) resting on an upper side of the base (1) and including a positioning hole (23); and an outer casing (3) including an open side for accommodating and thereby shielding and protecting the base (1) and the substrate (2), the outer casing (3) including at least one slot (3 1) aligned with the lug (22) on the substrate (2), the outer casing (3) further including an opening (32) that has an open end and aligned with a stub (12) on the base (1), a second fastener (24) being extended through the positioning hole (23) and the slot (J3 1) to thereby securely attach the outer casing (3) to the substrate (2).
2. The fixing device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the slot (31) of the outer casing (3) includes an open end that faces a direction the same as that of the open end of the slot (J3 1 3 1

A fixing device for an automatic door closing device having a base (1), the base being adapted to be secured to a doorplate (10) by first fasteners (11) at two fixing positions thereof, the fixing device comprising. a substrate (4; 6) adapted to be secured between the base (1) and the doorplate (10), the substrate including two open slots (41; 6 1) through which the first fasteners (11) are extended to secure the base (1) and the substrate (6) to the doorplate (10), the substrate (4. 6) including at least one lug (42; 62) formed on top thereof, said at least one lug (42; 62) resting on an ide of the base (1) and including a positioning hole (43; 63); and upper si an outer casing (5) including an open side for accommodating and thereby shielding and protecting the base (1) and the substrate (4.1 6), the outer casing (5) including at least one slot 7 1 1 2 3 (5 1) aligned with the lug (42; 62) on the substrate (4; 6), the outer casing (5) further including an opening (52) that has an open end and aligned with a stub (12) on the base (1), a second fastener (44; 64) being extended through the positioning hole (43; 63) and the slot (51) to thereby securely attach the outer casing (5) to the substrate, (4; 6).
4. The fixing device as claimed in claim 3, wherein the slot (5 1) of the outer casing (5) is L shape.
