Abstract
The device is attachable to an electric drill to assist holding horizontally, vertically and at set angles of 45 degrees. This is achieved by using a spirit level principle where the bubble is kept centred in the cross - hairs on the transparent sphere 2 fig 1. Alignment is achieved by simply tilting the drill. The 'clip' 3 fig 1 and angle bracket 4 fig 1 hold the transparent sphere 1 fig 1 in position. The device is attached and removed by use of the 'clip' body and is self supporting when on the drill. The device can be applied to the left hand or the right hand side of the drill fig 2 and 3.
Description
2358600.
ATTACHABLE LEVEL DEVICE FOR ELECTRIC DRMLS This invention relates to an attachable level device for electric drills.
The problem - when using an electric drill, horizontal, vertical and angular alignment can be very difficult to achieve.
The idea of the device allows perfect drilling vertically (both up & down), horizontally and at a set angle of 45' (again both up & down). This is achieved with the aid of a spirit level principle, where the bubble is kept centred in the cross - hairs when drilling to assist alignment with ease and simplicity.
The device is similar to a 'clip' 3, fig 1 where it attaches around the collar of the electric drill fig 2 & 3. The 'clip' is of sufficient strength and flexibility in order to be selfsupporting when attached to the drill and can also be applied and removed with ease. The transparent sphere 1, fig 1 is attached to the body of the 'clip' by means of an angle bracket 4, fig 1.
The transparent sphere 1, fig 1 contains a slow moving liquid which has a viscosity sufficient enough to handle the stress and vibrations of the drill.
Once the device is attached to the body of the drill the horizontal, vertical and angular alignments are achieved by simply tilting the drill until the bubble is centred in the cross - hairs 2, fig 1. As illustrated in figures 4 - 8 inc.
The device can be moved from the left-hand side to the right-hand side and vice versa to cater for different handed people. As illustrated in figures 2 & 3.
Figure 1 - illustrates the device, front and side view. Figure 2 illustrates the device attached to an electric drill, ftont and side view. Figure 3 - illustrates the device in an alternative position. Figure 4 illustrates the device in use in a horizontal position. Figure 5 illustrates the device in use in a vertically downward position. Figure 6 - illustrates the device in use in a vertically upward position. Figure 7 - illustrates the device in use in a downward position of 45 degrees. Figure 8 - illustrates the device in use in an upward position of 45 degrees.
Claims (8)
1. A device for attachment to an electric drill to facilitate holding of the drill horizontally, vertically and at a set angle of 45 degrees, comprising of a transparent sphere with cross -hairs containing liquid and bubble operating with similar principles to a spirit level.
2. A device according to claim 1 comprising a 'clip' engageable with part of an electric drill to attach the device thereto.
3. A device according to claim 2 wherein said transparent sphere is provided on an angle bracket.
4. A device according to any of the preceding claims wherein the device can be attached in both the left hand and right hand position on the drill.
5. A device according to any of the preceding claims wherein the transparent sphere provides cross -hair markings sufficient for holding level horizontally, vertically and at angles of 45 degrees.
6. A device according to any of the preceding claims wherein the liquid in the transparent sphere is sufficiently viscous enough to handle the stress and vibration of the drill.
7. A device substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawings figures 1 -
