Abstract

A bookmark has an outer case 1 and an insert 2, both of which are constructed from materials which can be written or printed upon such as card or paper. The bookmark can be used to hold a readers place in the text and for making notes. The outer case may be formed by folds or by constructing an envelope. The insert may formed in concertina fashion or as a booklet.

Description

2358373 Notation Bookmark This invention relates to a bookmark upon and
within which notes about a book or other text can be written or printed.
Traditional bookmarks are used to hold the readers place in the text they are reading, and otherwise have no other function, except possibly as an advertising media. The notation bookmark has been developed for students, researchers and other knowledge workers, or readers who like to record and easily store and recall the details of their reading. Or to act as a medium on which to print text and graphics.
According to the present invention there is provided a bookmark which comprises of an outer case and an inner insert both made from materials which can be written or printed upon such as paper and card but not exclusively so. The bookmark allows for the recording of details such as a books bibliographic details, other key references, key summary notes, and more detailed notes from a text.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 shows the bookmark outer case in an opened out perspective.
Figure 2 shows the complete bookmark partly folded.
Figure 3 illustrates the outer case and insert in a fully opened position.
Figure 4 shows the full bookmark fully closed.
Referring to the drawings in fig 1 -4 the outer element of the bookmark is constructed from card or other material which is suitable for writing on. This outer element may be produced by folding the material, which is typically longer in one dimension than another, but does not have to be so, into three equal widths (Fig 1). Or through other folding arrangements by which an envelope type structure is formed. Inside the folds or envelope formed by the outer component is attached an insert of the same height of the outer component and made from a material suitable for writing on such as paper 2 (Fig 3). This insert may be of varying widths but folded in concertina fashion in which the widths of each fold are slightly less than the width of the folded outer/ envelope component. This insert may typically have five folds, however it may have a differing number dependant on the size of the outer component, and the size of the insert. The insert may also be formed in a booklet fashion.
2 CI The insert is fixed permanently or temporarily with an adhesive or other fixative to one 0 the inside faces of the outer component (Fig 3), or if an envelope structure is used it cou.). d be inserted into the top or side of the envelope. If a folded outer component is used this is, 1 4n folded so as to present a bookmark ( Fig 2 and Fig 4) whose measurements equal only t Of -n:
one width of the folded card. The closing edge of the outer case should have some fon 0 fixative, adhesive or catch to allow for repeated opening and secure shutting of the folde outer or envelope.
