Abstract
The protector comprises a perforated sleeve having a padded end for attachment to the dogs tail. The sleeve may be made of metal and may be attached to the tail by an adhesive bandage.
Description
1 2358339 :L The Ultimate Tail Guard The Invention relates to a light,
rigid, perforated sleeve which either partially or wholly covers a dogs tail. The guard should only be fitted after suitable advice from your vet.
At present there is no protective covering for a dog's tail. The present treatment of an Elizabethan collar is cumbersome and uncomfortable for the dog. It provides no protection to a wagging or dangly tail. Other tail protective methods such as plastic tubing causes rubbing and sweating which again is uncomfortable and scratchy for the animal and does not allow a steady air flow around the wound or breakage of the skin.
The objective of this invention is to protect a dogs tail that is damaged, from further injury, whilst allowing minimum inconvenience to the animal and is practical and easy to fit. The guard can also be used on uninjured tails for use when the dog is perhaps in a temporary kennel and is at risk of damaging or breaking its tail whilst in a confined space or with other animals. This can be a major headache for kennel keepers as they are answerable to the owners should any injury occur to the dog whilst under the kennel owners supervision.
Effectively this invention provides protection to a dogs tail. The protective covering is light, easily stored, strong, easy to sanitize and inexpensive, in relative terms, to the vetting required for repeated injuries to a dogs tail. It should be made clear that this invention makes no claims to have healing powers. The guard only offers a tail protection from knocks, licks and bites. The guard, through the perforations in the material, allows fresh air to circulate the wound. The guard is fixed to the injured pets tail by adhesive bandaging such as elastotape. This tape should be fixed securely, but not over-tight, possibly stemming blood-flow. If the owner is in any doubt about attaching the guard they should seek advice from their vet. This tape is strong and easy to manipulate around the guard and the injured animal's tail thus ensuring a secure fixing.
The guard is comfortable for the animal to wear. The guard, where the tail joins the guard, is padded with a leather-like material. Due to the perforations, the tail is also less likely to sweat and become itchy. The material used for the cylindrical sheath is lightweight, perforated, robust and rustproof The preferred material is metal, as dogs tend not to enjoy the taste of metal, although other suitable materials may be usedDogs appear to adjust to the guard with ease. As it causes little or no interference to their daily routines. Therefore the guard can be kept on the animals tail until a full recovery is made.
A preferred embodiment of the invention is clearly shown in figures 1 and 2.
Figure 1 shows an, isometric view of the guard.
Figure 2 shows the tail guard in place.
