Abstract

A skipping rope has handles 1 with rotatable beads 3 therein. A crimp sleeve 2 and washer 4 secure the rope 5 to the bead such that the bead is freely rotatable for reducing friction. The rope 5 is passed through a crimp sleeve 2, which is then inserted into the bead 3. A washer 4 can then be placed over the other end of the crimp sleeve 2, and the crimp sleeve 2 crimped to the rope 5. The rope 5 is thus secured in place inside the rotatable bead 3, and the crimp sleeve 2 can also spin freely inside the bead 3. The handles 1 can be hollow to accommodate weights. The handles 1 may be made from very hard and durable plastic, nylon, or metal and the bead 3 may be made from similar materials or brass. The combined crimp and sleeve 2 may be brass.

Description

1 2358143 A skipping rope with no friction at the end of the rope where it
is attached to the handle which has a very smooth and fast action which spins and revolves in all directions required for high performance skipping. it comprises of:- components illustrated in fig 1 & fig 2 Two handles (1) Two combined sleeve and crimps (2) Two beads (3) Two washers (4) One length of rope (leather or plastic type material) (5) For assembly of the rope:Each end is passed through the working ends of the handles(l) and out through the other ends. Then through the combined sleeve and crimp.(2) Which is then inserted through the bead.(3) A washer(4) is then passed over the end of the combined sleeve and crimp(2) and past the slots. The sleeve crimp(2) is then crimped to the rope,(5) the bead(3) then spins freely not allowing it or the washer(4) to come back off the ends of the rope.(5) It is then drawn back through the handle(l) where the bead(3) sits but does not pass through the shoulders of the handle.(1) The opposite end is done in the same procedure, but is not crimped until it is purchased to allow the buyer to adjust the length of the rope(5) to suit their need. Skiping Rope comprises of The Handle(l) Which can be manufactured from very hard and durable plastic, nylon or metal material. It would also be made in two sizes to accomadate two different types of rope, one being the conventional leather rope approx 8ram diameter and the other is the popular speed rope made of plastic or nylon type material approx 5mm diameter. It could also be made in various shapes for comfort and also covered for grip. The handle would be enlarged in diameter at the working end to allow for free movement of the working parts of the rope. The working end of the handle has a hole slightly smaller in diameter than the bead so that it does not pull through. (Optional) The larger version of handle could be made to allow weights to be inserted into it so the user could strenthen arms and shoulders muscles if needed in certain types of training. The weight would not be allowed to touch the working parts of the rope by means of a small shoulder and would be retained by a threaded cap end to the handle. The Combined Crimp & Sleeve(2) Would be made out of a brass type of material one end slightly folding out for less friction against rope. The other end has two slots cut into the sleeve about Smm back from the end this enables the back of the sleeve to be crimped without distorting the sleeve. The internal diameter of the sleeve allows the two types of rope to pass through neatly. The Bead (3) Can be made out of a very hard and durable plastic, nylon, brass or metal type of material. The internal hole in the bead or bearing would be manufactured so that the combined crimp and sleeve would pass through with tolerance to spin freely. There are two sizes of bead for the two different diameters of rope. The Washer(4) Is used as described above. The Rope (5) Is as described as above.
1. A skipping rope comprising two handles through which each end of a rope is passed and then crimped onto a bead which is of such diameter that it protrudes through the opening of the handles but prevents the rope passing back through the handle enabling the rope to rotate freely whilst eradicating any friction and/or wear on the rope through contact with the handle openings as it spins.
2. A skipping rope as claimed in Claim 1 where the bead can be made out of plastic, nylon, brass or other metal type of material.
3. A skipping rope as claimed in Claims 1 and 2 wherein the rope can be crimped at any length.

Claims (1)

  1. 4. A skipping rope as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the handles are hollow so
as to enable weights of varying density to be inserted.
    5. A skipping rope substantially as herein described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
