Abstract

A wall mounted dispenser comprises a housing 10 in which a separate conventional pump action dispenser 12 is slidably mounted in an inverted condition. The inverted pump action dispenser 12 comprises an elongate cylinder 13 containing the toothpaste and an actuator 15 at its lower end for dispensing, eg toothpaste, through an outlet 14 disposed adjacent the actuator 15. The outlet 14 projects through an opening 16 in the bottom of the housing 10 and the actuator 15 rests on a wall 16 at the lower end of the housing 10. In use, toothpaste is dispensed by urging the pump dispenser 12 downwardly within the housing 10, thereby displacing the actuator 15, so that the toothpaste flows out of the outlet 14 projecting through the bottom of the housing. The wall mounted dispenser is simple in construction and is thus inexpensive to manufacture.

Description

2358046 Wall mounted dispenser for flowable materials This invention
relates to a wall mounter dispenser for flowable materials and more particularly but not solely to a wall mounted toothpaste dispenser.
Wall mounted dispensers for toothpaste are well known.
US 4 570 829 discloses one such dispenser comprising a mechanism, which can be actuated to urge toothpaste from a conventional tube.
A disadvantage of dispensers for dispensing toothpaste from a conventional tube is that the dispensing mechanism is complicated, thereby making the dispenser expensive to manufacture.
DE 297 17 529 discloses a toothpaste dispenser comprising a cartridge of toothpaste. However, a disadvantage of such dispensers is that the cartridges are generally unique to the dispenser and as such may not be widely available.
In addition to conventional toothpaste tubes, toothpaste is also available in a so-called pump dispenser. such pump dispensers comprise a cylinder of toothpaste and a spring biased piston which forces toothpaste out of a dispensing outlet when an actuator adjacent the outlet is depressed. Another known form of pump dispenser comprises a self -priming valve which dispenses an amount of toothpaste each time '%-..he actuator is depressed.
Accordingly, I have now devised a wall mounted dispenser for flowable materials incorporating a conventional pump dispenser.
In accordance with this invention, there is provided a wall mounted dispenser for flowable materials, the dispenser comprising a housing having an elongate compartment therein, in which a separate pump action dispenser is slidably mounted in an inverted condition, the pump action dispenser comprising an elongate cylinder containing said material and actuator means at a lower end of the inverted pump action dispenser for dispensing the material through an outlet disposed adjacent the 2 actuator means, wherein the outlet projects through an opening in the bottom of the housing, said actuator resting on a formation at the lower end of the compartment.
In use, the material is dispensed by urging the pump action dispenser downwardly within the housing, thereby displacing the actuator, so that the material flows out of the outlet projecting through the bottom of the housing.
The wall mounted dispenser is simple in construction and is thus inexpensive to manufacture. The pump action dispenser containing the material is of the type which is widely available and a replacement is easy to obtain whenever the material is exhausted.
Preferably, the upper end of the housing is open to allow the pump action dispenser to be removed from the compartment.
Preferably, a cap is provided for engaging the upper end of the inverted pump action dispenser. Thus, the actuator can be depressed by pressing down on the cap.
Preferably the cap extends over the upper end of the housing.
An embodiment of this invention will now be described by way of example only and with reference to the accompanying drawing, the single figure of which is a sectional view through a wall mounted toothpaste dispenser in accordance with this invention.
Referring to the drawing, there is shown a wall mounted toothpaste dispenser comprising an elongate tubular housing 10 of plastics material having a L-shaped formation 11 on its external surface for engaging with a bracket (not shown) fixed to a wall, so that the elongate housing 10 can be mounted vertically on a wall.
A conventional pump action dispenser 12 of toothpaste is mounted in an inverted condition within the tubular housing 10. The pump action dispenser 12 comprises an elongate cylinder 13 which contains the toothpaste and a spring-biased 3 piston (not shown) for urging the toothpaste towards an outlet nozzle 14 disposed at the lower end of the inverted dispenser 12.
An actuator 15, disposed adjacent the outlet nozzle 14 can be depressed axially of the cylinder 13, to allow the toothpaste to flow out of the outlet nozzle 14.
The outlet nozzle 14 projects through an opening 16 in the bottom wall 17 of the housing, the actuator 15 resting on the bottom wall 17.
The upper end of the inverted pump action dispenser 12 extends above the upper edge of the housing 10 and is engaged with a detachable cap 18 having a peripheral depending skirt 19, which extends over the upper end of the housing 10.
In use, toothpaste is dispensed by pressing down on the cap 18, which causes the pump action dispenser 12 to move downwardly within the housing 10. The actuator 15 is unable to move downwardly, since it is resting on the bottom wall 17 of the housing and thus the actuator is depressed axially inwardly of the dispenser, thereby causing toothpaste to flow through the outlet nozzle 14.
It will be appreciated that the toothpaste dispenser is extremely simple in construction and is thus inexpensive to manufacture. The pump action dispenser 12 is of the conventional type and thus no difficulties will be experienced when attempting to obtain a replacement.
