Abstract

A cooling system for a beverage dispenser comprising a water tank (10), through which beverage to be dispensed is conducted from a supply (6) thereof through cooling coils (8) located in a cooling tank (10), to a dispensing head (11). Located in the cooling tank (10) are two cooling coils (16a, 16b) of a heat transfer system, each connected to the heat exchanger (14a, 14b) respectively of a refrigeration unit (12a, 12b). From each heat exchanger (14a, 14b) a cooling circuit extends to one of the two cooling coils, and a return line (17) extends back to the heat exchanger via a pump (18a or 18b). By the use of a single phase, low pressure heat transfer system between the refrigeration unit (12) and the cooling chamber (10), the refrigeration units may be located at some distance from the cooling units. Additionally, by the use of two refrigeration units for the cooling unit, a larger cooling chamber (10) may be utilised, whilst providing emergency backup in the event that one of the refrigeration units fails.
