Abstract

All door fittings normally housed in the door wing are located in the door frame. Thus, the door handle, latch mechanism, lock and keyhole are all in the door frame. Only the recesses to receive latch and lock members remain in the door wing. A recessed handle may be incorporated into the wing.

Description

2357793 SYSTEMSOVEREIGN LWTED THE RELOCATION.OF KEYING AND LOCKING
MECHANISMS AND DEVICES TO ENHANCE AESTHETICS, SAFETY AND SECURITY This invention relates to the relocation of keying and locking mechanisms and devices for doors, windows and other entry and e)dt facilities to buildings, motorised and nonmotorised vehicles, containers, cupboards, storage areas and the like.
Keying and locking mechanisms and devices are well known and usually consist of locking mechanisms and devices operated by a key or keys which may be 'contact! or 'remotely controlled andlor operated manually or electronically.
Keying and locking mechanisms and devices are designed for safiny and security of people and property.
Keying and locking mechanisms and devices are installed andlor fitted to doors, windows and entry and exit openings in such a way that the locking mechanisms and devices, and operating accesses (commonly called keyholes) to these mechanisms and devices, are located on the moving part which is usually the door or the window of the building, vehicle, container, cupboard and the like, that is being secured.
In addition to the locking mechanism or device, other devices known generally as handles andlor knobs are fitted to the moveable part of the doors, windows and the like, of the building, vehicle, container, cupboard and the like that is being secured. These handles andlor knobs oger finger andlor hand holds to open or close the doors, windows and the like. Unfortunately these handles andlor knobs also present a safety hazard, in that from time to time injury is caused by these projections, also, clothing is caught from time to time, which can and do lead to material damage andlor personal injury.
Primarily because of the location of the locking mechanisms and devices, illegal and/or unauthorised access to the mechanism can and, and in some cases, is fairly easily achieved, thereby down-grading the integrity of the security designed to be provided by the locking mechanisms and devices.
On the immovable or fixed part of the object or structure being secured, that is, the framework surround or jamb, a recess is usually fitted on, or built into this structure, and may or may not be reinforced internally or externally, to provide access and housing for the securing devices such as bolts, tongues and the like which provide the security locking facility of the entire locking mechanism or device to the building, vehicle, container, cupboard and the like.
Figure IA shows generally the current layout of a locking mechanism/device and handle.
2 This invention relocates the locking mechanism and device with the keyhole(s) to the immovable part of the object or structure that is being secured. This invention finther relocates the housing mechanism for the locking device of bolts, tongues and the like, from the immovable part of the object or structure, that is from the framework, surround and the like, to the movable part, that is the door, window and the like. The recesses andlor housing for the locking devices may or may not be reinforced. If reinforced or boxed in the housing for the bolt, tongue or the like will enhance the security of the system This relocation of the locking mechanism or device to within the structure of the framework or surround orjamb ofFers additional and reinforced protection of the locking mechanism or device, thus enhancing the security of the system in the first place.
Instead of having the handles andlor knobs on the moving parts, that is, the doors or windows or the like, the moving parts would simply have recesses for hand or finger holds to assist in the opening and closing. This would enhance the aesthetics of the o'b ject or structure in the second place.
Thirdly, the relocation of such handles andlor knobs would reduce the risk hazards of these devices, thus enhancing safety to people and property.
Figure IB shows generally the new, that is, relocated layout of the keying and locking mechanisms and devices, and the accesses and housing for the bolts and tongues for security.
3 FIGURES Referring to the drawings the relocation of keying and locking mechanisms and devices as referred to in this invention:
FIGURE IA: CURRENT LAYOUT IN GENERAL USE FIGURE 113: GENERALLY RELOCATED LAYOUT The fixing of the positions depicted in the layout shown in Figure IB is general only in the location of the various mechanisms andlor devices, and fixes no position of any of the mechanisms andlor devices, one to the other. The layout shows that keying andlor locking mechanisms are placed on or within the fixed or immovable part of the object or structure, while the housing for the bolts, tongues or the like, used in the locking mechanisms and/or devices be located on or within the movable part, that is, the door, window, or the like.

Claims (1)

1) Locking mechanisms andlor devices for doors, windows, accesses andlor edts or the like facilities that may be used for security andlor safety, that may or may not use keys, which may or may not be operated by manual contact or remote control, and which may or may not be manually or electronically driven and which are fitted to buildings, motorised andlor non-motorised vehicles, sheds, containers, cupboards and the Eke, to have the locking mechanisms andlor devices fitted on or within the immovable part, that is, the framework, structural surround, jamb or similar, of such a building or object, and the handles, knobs or similar, together with any accesses, keyhole(s) or the like required for the operation(s) of the locking mechanisms andlor devices which may or may not be fitted within or unto the said framework, structural surround, jamb or similar. The doors, windows and similar moving parts would then contain the accesses and/or housing for bolts, tongues andlor other facility fitted on or built within the said moving parts, such accesses andlor housing may or may not be reinforced, to provide the locking capability for the security of the mechanisms andlor devices.
